Was thinking the other day. There must be so many modified chassis' just sitting around collecting dust. Even some of our ex 1NZ cars have gone missing or slipped off the radar. How many of these cars could be pulled out, 355ci put in them and revive the class on a lower budget. Anyone know of where cars are? I know my last Harris car was sold in 2009 and has never resurfaced. I hope its not scrap.

Ive got a car in my garage - just chassis, bonnet and wing though.
its the ex 97A of Rick Mackay, also used to be 97H but I dont know anything from before that.
annoyingly i found last night that its too small for me - I dont want to cut it up but I might have to change a few things to fit....

That was a Vic Neal built car, 34A. Also Raced by Malcolm Grey as 9R before Matt Hazelton 97H raced it. Built early/mid 90s.

its in bloody good nick, chassis is still tagged too. its only ever hit the wall once, never been rolled etc.
slight lift - about 3cms - in the front right corner but apart from that its as straight as the day it was built.

There out there sitting alright. I know where the Bertram 1NZ Harris & the Merv Julian 2NZ/3NZ Gordge are as I sold them to the same bloke. I now have the Arapere 2NZ Gordge Hi-bar Torsion bar all round car which only needs a Winters Diff with a 3 inch offset axle & it will be complete. Having trouble finding one tho. Waiting for the day when these cars can be run as a class of there own with a 355 cu/in engine so people can see what the cars were all about in there day. I spose a class something like the Golden oldies I guess. These chassis's aren't over the hill yet either but if I have to wait to long for this class to start I may well be, over the hill I mean

Would love to be in a limited modifeds class - bring out the old gear and setup the cheap new stuff that cant keep up with the top dollars racing today.

I think if a class were created for more of a spectacle for the crowd rather than an all out compete to win scenario there would be a a bit of interest in these older cars. Might even bring some of the older Mod guys back for a more social skid. I'd personally be keen to use these cars in particular to run as a support class with the DHL Ltd series. Even if it were only the series rounds that the class raced each year in both the North & South Islands. Providing a certain number of cars were guaranteed to show it might be of interest to the Track promoters concerned.

Rhodesta, that car would still be competitive today with the right gear but put a speedway engineering quickchange in it and a 355 and it be perfect for a second class. Same as the car the Lanes have for sale. (EX 58R) Joe I would be interested in pics of your car if you dont mind, what year was it 2NZ? The RB car your refer to, which 1NZ was that? And Yes, some of us old Mod guys might think about coming back. I know Dave Bray (EX 5A) still has his old car sitting in Auckland that would go well with some of these cars.

Bertram 1NZ is the older Harris chassis of Natasha Rogers. The 2NZ car I have I've been told was the original Silver chassis with pink body 4S that was mentioned in the Gordge Mod Post

Oh right, yes I know which Harris car that is, I had the sister car to it. Did you get the Gordge car from Queenstown? Mark Dixons old colors?
There must be more out there that are just sitting ducks.

Last ran as 57W Yellow & White Chevy Belair body. Still got the original bonnet with pink colouring underneath where the yellow paint has come off.If you go to the Gordge Modified forum at the bottom of this page & go to the 14th post of the first page you will see the car I have.

hey rhodesta can you put up a pick of your car? and were is the engine that was in it? This was taken at Waikaraka practice last year. What I have is the bare chassis, an older wing and a very old body - i do have that bonnet though. The original the 383 it had when hazelton raced it got tossed for a 406, which blew up not long after this pic was taken. the replacement 406 has been put into Ricks new car.

Yeah Joe, I know which car it is now. Mark Gapp had it as 57P with the Bel Air body. Cool car.
Rodesta, you need to put that car back together n get racing.

Im workin on it - going to try out a few ideas, mainly in order to lower the costs - more time and effort = less financial outlay hopefully. not going over 355c1 and I prefer ford engines to chev anyway so have to change the firewall. since theres a pair of bars and a plate that needs straighteneing under the feet as well im gonna take advantage and see if i can adapt a few other bits and incorporate a few ideas while im at it.

So where are all these cars. I know Mike Jury in New Plymouth has a few cars. But there has to be more somewhere.

Just saying my last mod (34a)was built on a Challenger sprint car chassis that I brought back when we returned from living in Australia......I removed the front torsion tubes and changed the cage to mod specs
