The Manawatu Speedway Club is setting up the "N.Z. Speedway Hall of Fame" this will cover all classes run by Speedway N.Z. We would like you to help us once again to choose some of the inductees. We are thinking that approx 15/20 people would be inducted in on the night that will be organised for this. The Manawatu Speedway Club will look at having a function possibly late September at the Awapuni Racecourse. You dont have to nominate 15/20 but please tell us who you think should be inducted and why

obvious open wheel contenders must be the likes of Barry Butterworth, Ted Tracey, Kerry Jones, Alan Wakeling, Michael Kendall to name a few. Pretty self explanatory why really.

Does this initiative, which I support totally in principle and likely long overdue, have SNZ Board support or is this an initiative totally independent of SNZ encompassing all forms of speedway and affiliations within NZ?
Has anybody checked with SNZ to make sure the Board of SNZ doesn't have a similar train of thought in the pipeline?

That is incorrect...The New Zealand Speedway Hall of fame (based in Auckland) is alive and well. The website that the list has been taken off is not up to date. Marcel Facoory from Auckland pretty much runs it. They have a well supported function every year- difference is, it only covers 'Speedway' classes..not Saloons, Stocks, Modifieds, Street Stocks

Just wondering what format this HOF is intended to take. Are there classes? What should they be - individual race classes? - Open Wheel?closed wheel?bike?admin/promoter? Contact? What is the eligibility criteria? Are current racers eligible? How long after career finished finished if not? Assume the 15 - 20 number is an initial induction. What is plan for future inductions? Annually? How many? Limits per category per year? Compulsory induction per category per year? (eg once you have done Ivan, Barry, Ronnie, Mitch Shirra, Larry Ross are ther any more solo riders that deserve the honour? (These being the only names I a non bike follower know as standout solo riders) Can someone be removed for later offences not related to their speedway achievements? Some names by category Contact Dave Evans - The gold standard of stockcar drivers Craig Boote - 3 time champion Kevin Free - 3 time Champion Closed Wheel Blondie Chamberlin - 4 time Champion (eligible? as still racing?) Peter Woods - 3 time Champion Tony Cardwell - 3 time Champion Open Wheel Barry Butterworth - Possibly the most well known name in NZ Speedway Roger Bertram - Multiple champion across two classes Frank Brewer - The first Great kiwi speedway racer Bikes Ivan Mauger ) Barry Briggs ) Self explanatory Ronnie Moore ) Off Track Bruce Robertson - promoter Peter Kuriger - builder Spike Richardson - administrator Cheers Lee

Could someone tell me when the last person to be inducted into the speedway hall of fame and if there are inductees each year? We have some great racers about and some are getting on and would be great to open to debate and see what people think. Certainly the likes of Roger Bertram should already be there for me?? Although there are many others. If someone could advise that would be great.

Also Mr Peter Woods is also to my knowledge the only driver to win the NZ , GP , NI , and SI titles in the same season. The 77/78 season I think . Happy to be corrected on that one.
