Well a blank canvas would be nice and with endless ratepayers money that doesnt need to be justified. A fully covered complex so that the venue can be utilised all year round not only for speedway or banger racing but other users aswell. If western springs and waikaraka park were to share the same venue for 8-10 meetings each per season and with a covered complex where rainoffs are a thing of the past, this would open up a new market to more clubs that can use the complex, the easier it could be to sell the idea to get the best facilities for speedway. 8-10 meetings each?? That might work for the open wheel guys but WP has run about 18 odd meetings this season with 1 to go..

I agree rather than people finding what is wrong with having a shared venue I believe working to make it an awesome venue running alternative weeks could be awesome although the season could be longer. Indoor interesting and maybe worth a look at the costs involved. Semi banked would be good also. If the venues could work alternate weeks this would be to the benefit of other tracks such as Huntley, Bay park and Rotorua. With having only one track more could be spent on infrastructure and operational costs would be reduced. Speedway in Auckland would be the winner.

The last couple of posts have some merit in that a shared venue between tin-tops and open wheelers could work well.
Consider this; after the four big Midget meetings over Christmas-New Year, the open-wheelers take a month-long break
Then with good promotion you could slot in some killer Super Saloon and Super Stock deals.
And while that's in progress the Sprints and Midgets would be free to race in Oz or down country.
And for us fans we get the best of both worlds, knowing we can turn up on Saturday night and watch top-notch action.
Whadaya reckon Baz ?

I like your schedule Cards. Only problem I see is that it's all based around what the WS promotion would want date wise, and slotting the WP half of the deal into the gaps. Some calendar dates are much more profitable than others obviously, so what happens when the WP mob next get to host the NZ Superstock Champs and want to hold it on the first weekend in January? If there was a way of making it all work, it'd be a stunner!!!

If we are talking of a running both W.S and W.P from the same place why not mix the classes say over a 20 night season one week run sprint cars salons super stocks TQs street stocks then the next meeting run modifieds midgets stockcars super saloons six shooters and or mini sprints do away with adult mini sticks make them youth run them on every second meeting with quarter midgets tuning the other WORK with Huntly and B.P so when clases aren't tuning at one track they gi to the other and fans likewise. Have a similar idea for Ruapuna and Woodford glen here in chch. Guess making it happen would be to hard

Well if it did arise i guess you could bugger off for a hot dog while the kiddie stocks were racing :)Couldnt imagine the administration of both clubs, plus promotion able to work together ,Boy oh Boy old Frances would almost think it was like a red rag to a bull with Billy Ha Ha wanting the biggest slice of the cake . Many racers i think would disappear to greener grass and the likes of Huntly would prosper ,which basically isnt a bad thing for the club ,as well not far to travel for Jaffas .

Two very different groups of fans Sorry mate, but, I've got to take issue with this. Once upon a time we were all stuck in our own grooves. League fans hated Union and vice-versa. Same in Speedway we were either Midget fans or stock car fans. But because of the gap in the Springs summer programme a lot of us have been travelling 'cross town and to Huntly and guess what, we've learnt to appreciate Super-stocks and Super-saloons. Yea there are club classes that we can ignore, but when it comes to action you can't beat Super-stocks teams racing and a Midget 25-lapper with the fastest from the rear.

Well, listening to Christine Fletcher on the radio live today, there's a lot of water to go under this bridge.Council soon goes into hibernation for two days to approve the next ten years budgets. Her view is approve the budget to move the Warriors and Western Springs Speedway, but give the new CEO of Stadiums Auckland time to review the previous CEOs strategy. She is the chair of the parks and recreation committee(or something similar). She also associated some pretty big local political names with the idea.
Me thinks this might be code code for, back to the drawing board boys and girls.

ducking and diving , bumps and curves. A back flip would finish the set off nicely.

This Council is so dam detached to what Aucklanders want it beyond a joke now. There was one mug on the radio news just this morning saying that a raise of 10% of rates is what Aucklanders want??? And that we dont want 3000 new home consents approved because apparently our infrastructure cant handle it??? Im starting to wonder where exactly the council get their information from about what Aucklanders actually want??

The Warriors management spoke out again yesterday about deferring decisions and leaving them at Mt Smart too, so I guess there's still a wee bit of hope?

I heard on the news at lunchtime that any stadium relocations are put off for further consideration

Decision delayed by 6-12 months, which probably means 2-3 years, so I guess the Springs will gain another reprieve. An article I've read also states that Speedway Promotions Limited (SPL) has pledged $5,000,000 to the council towards the upgrade of Mt Smart.

Barry B That was what was said on the news last night along with the warriors saying they wouldn't play at any other Auckland venue & would leave town if a venue change was forced on them
