I am about to come across as capatalist, right wing and uncaring. Truth is that I am really only the first but this one has me riled up. Cannot be like Bob and ignore it.
Speedway is a commodity! It is not a public good and nor is it a necessity. The fact that more and more seating is being sold as reserved with less going to general admission is a sign of the value of the product and that is a good thing. Don't tell pnspeed but I'd even be prepared to pay more than the $120 I currently pay to have two great nights of entertainment.
That some people cannot affotd to go is sad and I feel for them but why should I miss out on a reserved seat or the promoter miss out on maximising profits just so they can get a seat the want without paying a premium for it?
Am I lucky to have the money to buy reserved tickets? Can I buy reserved tickets due to the sacrifices I made getting an education? Can I afford tickets beacuse I rarely drink and never smoke? The fact I walk to work rather than use my car? Its irrelevant really but the point is I can afford to reserve tickets and why should I miss out because someone can not?
My suggestion to anyone worriedabout the price is don't go. Get a friend together and go halvsies in the live stream. If yu don't like that idea then accept the price to get the seat you want and pay it or take your chances with generaladmission. No point beating about it though.
As an after thought? How much data or internet do you use on this site? $5 less a month on your internet bill is $60 and more than the $20 you are currently worried about it.

On the other side - why should joe public miss out on a seat because money became the sole purpose for the host (venues manawatu)?

By Joe public you mean you? I am not missing out note are many other Joe publics. no - I mean anyone who is more than happy to pay GA rates and enjoy their weekend. GA has worked for most of us for how many seasons now? And then Venues Manawatu make it more costly to hire out the track and facilities? If you read the thread - I'm not the only one put off by the fact that Turn 3 is now reserved.

And I am happy to pay the reserved price to get the seats I want. That has also worked well for me over the last 7 or 8 years. Rather than whinge because you won't or cant, make it happen.

I must admit - I'm a little disappointed that turn three in its entirety has been changed to a reserved seating area - the second year I attended teams I got to sit on turn three with the other GA users - and now we've been confined to a sun-struck, mishmash area on turn two, or one block and temp seating on turns three and four? Not everyone has the ability or means with which to buy reserved seating (I am pushing s**t uphill to barely get GA as it is) and to find out now that the one place I've sat for nearly 8 teams events is now reserved only is quite a bitter disappointment. I don't want to be reduced to sitting ONLY on turn two as there is constant nagging ladies with screamy, nasty children, or there are drunks who can't figure out how stairs work and stumble over about 4 people in their process of climbing (and yes, I have been on turn 2 before for my first year so yes I do know how it feels there) and worst of all, the first 4-odd races and the grand parade is obscured by sunstrike - not exactly pleasant or preferred viewing. Please at least tell me that all gates for fans will open at the same time to prevent people hogging all the temp seating?! Completely agree, the only reason I still buy GA is because of the other people who we sit with at turn 3 every year. When I looked on Ticket Direct there wasn't anyway to choose an area where you want to sit with reserved.... pretty gutted to be honest. Coming up 10 years in a row and not going to sit where or with who we always sit with.... Just regarding the option to choose where you sit in reserved seating. If the option is not located on the Ticket Direct website try calling and talking direct to them. They can sometimes place you in areas of your choice. Just a note sometimes they may charge you an extra amount like up to $3 for doing the process manually. So far I have never been charged if you explain the issue

We sit in the same spot for the last 7 yeards with the same people around us. I go into the Ticket Direct local office and they can show the taken seats so you can choose where you want to go.

Agreed sat in the same seats roughly for last nine years. Go into office or ring them if can't do it on the website

And any business person would be better off banking the money before the event than waiting for walk up business.

Still "banked" as in sold. Hell if I knew all my sales were sold each month, a month out, I'd have a lot less stress.
