I'm jumping into a Stockcar build, spent long enough on the outside of the fence time to go in!
I'm goin to start with engine & suspension ideas then find a chassis and the rest of the pieces.
Being a huge Nissan fan im going to build an RB30, i'm not fussed with being at the pointy end just happy to be mid pack and out there.
having done a bit of research and having owned a few RB powered cars they don't start too far from the falcon as far as factory power and tourque are concerned even giving away a litre in capacity! am more interested in the tourque curve than hp anyway.
and we're off!

with a few of posts you have put up over the last few weeks. the best advice i will give you is go and buy your first car.
Before you get in to the engine and suspenion "ideas" you need to have a good understanding of what stress and fatigue loadings everything is under. you know what the differance between stock RB and stock Falcon are? do you also understand what the stockcar class restrictions put on engines?
you can read the rule book, but nothing will beat experance. i dont want to sound like someone that is in the stuck in his ways of racing, i have tryed alot of things outside of the box, some work, some dont. but you can spend alot of time and money on things that you have no comparison of.
good luck

i do have a pretty good idea already having crewed on stockcars for the last 14 years and being around from scratch builds and yes i know the restrictions on engines and the can and can not bits too.

Nice one sounds like we might be I for another build thread which is always cool. If your dead set on a Nissan there has been a few used - check out this thread macgor.proboards.com/thread/11693/nissan-v6-stockcars?page=1Seem to recall you could use standard Nissan v 8 Pistons to bore it out and get some big gains

Cheers obby.
Yeah def want a Nissan. Heck if i could find and afford 1 I'd run the original v8 from the original Nissan president circa 70's. Dreams are free with that tho Lol.
I'd love to use an actual Datsun body to or maybe a N14 pulsar body.

Was very interesting reading about he development of the 3.3 Nissan terrano engine.
The motor they built in the link was bored out but had the same cam andnonkybpolished heads and they were very enthusiastic.
Bang a can in and it would go pretty good I reckon.
Not sure what happened to the Lindsey trotter tank in the link that was running one-the big green beast

I spoke to Malcolm read (41h) a few times this season about his Nissan and he seemed to go pretty good ye said thatit reved abit more than the Ozzy engines did he jus had to sort diff ratio and tyres earlier in the season to get it going good. I think he won a couple of races too, and he teams raced it.

was teams raced never won a race but had a major shortage on power it got all its speed from good suspension set up which allowed it to car more speed into the corner. now in his tank he didnt realise what he was missing probably caught the power bug like everyone else now

Do you have to run a body? The rule book only tells you what it can be made of not that you must have one.

Im not 100% sure but I feel like if you didn't you would get a lot of grief from a lot of scrutineers. You 100% have to have a bonnet though. T12-2-16 (c)
I guess you could rivet sheets of aluminum or steel around the roll cage, I cant imagine it looking anything but hideous though
T12-2-77 (b) says side numbers must be on the body or side panels so i guess you'd have to have one or the other technically

Yeah i know about the bonnet rule, they just look cool with only bonnet and wing. Depending on chassis.
Have toyed with idea of see thru bonnet and body just to be different and the rule book does allow for plastic to be used.

Yes there has been a lil. I have my dummy engine for taking measurements and eyeballin other components i also have an extra manifold to adapt to carby but i think it will be too tall by about 5mm. Missed out on a 3 spd patrol gearbox in weekend too as forgot wen auction closed darn it Lol. In trying to use as many Nissan parts as possible have found out that there is a 4.3 navara diff so mite go with that then get the axles re holed as a five stud.
