Avgas pump gas maybe in a 355 with a big Ali radiator, but to save yourself a hole heap of worry go on methanol no overheating issues no stress On crew to rush and cool motor down after races , if your on a budget and want to do laps go with avgas gas but run the big radiator ,shroud and fan and have a bucket of water ready to pour slowly over radiator after the race , talk to the saloon car guys they seem to be able to keep temps down on there engines .

I'm from a salooncar and stockcar back round so up to speed on cooling.

so what sort of hp are they making beginners are usually around the 400/500hp mark, the mid pack cars have around 600hp and some of the top guns like Foxy have about 700hp. Ive been blasted for quoting that 700hp figure on foxys car before {By Jamo} so Im just gonna say now - that hp number is straight off the foxy.racing.org.nz website.

Our modified has less than 500hp and we placed on the podium at ten championship meetings in the season just gone, so yes you can be competitive with this amount of power. Obviously there are other factors such as setup knowledge, driving style, car prep, talent etc but its about utilising your HP and getting it to the ground to make the most of the HP you have.

Great post Browny89A, obviously a differing opinion to Jamo's. Speedway aint drag racing and theres lots of variables other than just plain old grunt. Pity that people make comments which aren't conducive to fostering more interest in the class at all levels. But I guess the Mod class is bursting with numbers so it doesn't matter...........
