I have a mazda astina i'm building for my mates birthday to be run at the Woodford Glen boxing day ramp race and was confused about the battery regs. It only says the battery must be adequately secured which I'm unsure how much is deemed adequate? i could go all out and fab up a custom battery box mounted in the passengers side of the cab or i could tighten up the factory mounts, how much is enough (happy to do either)? Also i'm guessing it can stay in the engine bay although the only car i have seen set up besides out smashing on the track had his in the cab. Cheers

do it the safest way mate, fab up a box and you can use it and the battery in the next car as well. bolt it to the floor in the rear passenger side area.

some guys in the stock car ranks have that thin camping matteress foam around the inside and under neath etc. make the lining so the battery has to be pushed down into it and strap down the top tight.
Put a kill switch on the main power cable just in case - easy reach of driver etc. push button start etc - all within reach of driver for easy starting after the inevitable stall.

Sounds like a similar set up to what im trying to sort with my XF Ute (building it for offroad racing). i might put a killswitch in but dont think that we will bother with the button start etc, its a car that wilol be binned in 1 race hopefully. If it was a car i was planning to re-run a few times i would do that but for this one i dont think i will worry

the reason why the battery was removed from under bonnet,is that a few years ago a battery came out an went through window of another car hitting him in the head plus acid burns etc..was in memo i got when scruttinring best place is behind drivers seat which is a no go hitting erea.,,,,,,,,hic

i ended up tig welding an ali box for it and mounting it in the factory position, was held down by four m8 ss bolts and the lid fo the box was tied down with 2 ratchet straps. box rotated but didnt come out, car survived but the drivers goggles fogged up and the bonnet flipped up so he couldnt see. still fired first pop when we moved it to strip it down after the derby was done.
