Until a few days ago the draw didn't really matter, but now that the tigers are packing their bags and polishing their numbers, interest has resumed in what has in the past has been somewhat controversial. Any official word on when and where this will be conducted?

Nothing mentioned on the website so far, and wont be until Auckland confirms if they are going or not. Since there are 13 teams at the moment, just do it like they did in Auckland. Draw it on the infield just prior to racing. Same promoter, same style maybe?? The 4 Seeded teams will already know where they race as per how they did things last time we had 13. See discussion thread on what happens if we got 13 teams for more info.

I'll be p*d if the draw is done on the same as it was for Auckland. It takes away a lot of the anticipation of the event and also for reasons we can't talk about here but it's good to be able to invest in the head to head match ups

Becomes a lot more about points and not just getting the chequer in 2 races to win groups when its 13 and more. This in turn can change the way a team races, opens up all sorts of scenarios in regards to points and protest etc etc....
Agree the draw can simply be done live on the night or at the scrutineering etc...somewhere live and public adds to the hype and anticipation..another draw card perhaps for the $$$$ were paying to attend. There use to be pre race enteratinment, a band even, performers etc.... bang for the buck
However it is what it is and as long as the 1000s attending get to see some good hard racing it shouldnt really matter to them in regards to the draw. The teams on the other hand now have a few extra elements that might need considering over the 1st night etc

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I never understand why promoters do teams draws on the night. The draw is perhaps the best marketing tool a teams event can have. The match-ups get people talking about the event and create excitement. The more people talking on social media about an event increases the advertising reach, informing more people that the event is on. Often the draw throws up a qualifying night match-up worthy of a final, a local derby or a marquee matchup that carries the pre-event interest. No doubt Barry Brown will be working hard to ensure this years draw is "fair" to all teams

You can always sell more live streams though! And it's still more exposure, so sponsors are willing to spend more to support the event and teams the following year, or even support other events as well

The Panthers haven't made the final for the last 2 seasons so there will be a great deal of planning and thinking going into this years draw. Until the final team line ups are confirmed then the draw will be "made up". We will have the seeded teams and then the others will be drawn from a hat. The pieces of paper will not contain a team name as this would not help with the "making up" of the draw, the pieces of paper will contain a letter starting from A in the alphabet, they will not be the letter of the track code as this would again be problematic with "making up" the draw. The letters drawn from the hat will simply be allocated to a team which the conductor of the draw feels should race in that group.

I've also received information they're going ahead with uneven groups. Really don't think it's the best available option.
I'll buy you a hot dog next time I'm in the Bay!!

Probably go with 2 groups of 4 and 2 groups of 3 = 14 Teams Just means the groups of four only race 2 of the other teams in their group where the groups of 3 all race each other. Bottom line is each team has two races first night and eliminates possible run-offs. The Huntly teams meet before Xmas had 8 teams and had two groups, but the teams only raced two of the 3 other teams in their group.
