after all these weeks and only 26 RIPs for Ivan ... heart sinks to see it... Can see where yr coming from. When you hear of certain racecar drivers being referred to as a Legend , in comparison they are nothing to Ivan Mauger . And when you think of the support that Laz Mezaros gave to the Bay of Plenty Clubs there was very little acknowledgement for him as well , even on the facebook sites . Will admit that the BayPark Busters and Horse [ Ross Ashby ] did post their own tributes.

we had some great "WORLD" champions in a sport that has reach throughout Europe and into the USA... thats a heck of a lot bigger than some sports we compete in round the globe...I remember the hot school week as a kid excited that saturday night we were going to see Ivan Mauger at Te Marua..a true world champion..yeah now i see guys being called legends because they drive the fourth fastest division in stockcars/speedway when you take into account a post on here that shows that superstocks are the fourth quickest round WP after saloon cars...Yes High Revs..with out detracting from what drivers accomplish in their own right and their own feats of heroism..Ivan Mauger is way ahead of them all...he left and championed the world...our best superstock drivers come home after world champs meetings ..participated well etc..but not World Champions..not once not twice Three frikken times mate...Elvis of Speedway bikes

Remembering some of the great world champions of yesterday in this modern time is usually by those who like yourself were taken to events that these legends raced in ,or took a interest in the sport involved .. Society has changed by many ,they reflect on those who have made a impact on there lives ,but show little remorse for others ..

Highest achievers shouldn't be allowed to be forgotten! Who's the best example of the art?

I worry sometimes our kids dont even get the connection between Mclaren and NZ and the Speedy Kiwi logo ..luckily the fastest indian has had a full and decent portray'l in the movie of the same Name...world drivers champion Denny Hulme F1...Bruce McLaren 2nd drivers championship F1.. list goes on...Ivan Mauger another hero who shouldnt be forgotten.

I for one normally only comment on the RIP threads if I actually knew the person. Just because ppl hadn't commented or made the generic (and sickening) "So sad that so & so has gone to the great racetrack in the sky" it doesn't mean they or their deeds are forgotten.
Unless someone is at least early to mid 40s or older they prob never saw him race and would need to be a good 10yrs older than that to actually remember him at his peak. It's human nature that unless it happened in yr lifetime it never really happened except in the history books from back in the dim dark ages. You only need to take music as an example if you asked yr average listener of The Edge radio station to name the greatest song ever it wouldn't surprise me if the alleged "greatest song ever" was released in the last 20 years, when we all know Freebird was released in the previously mentioned dim dark ages.

You make some good points Rammer, but I come from the dark ages too so I can relate to Free Bird, and Sweet Home... Gimme a T, etc. also. I made this in 2011, for Denny and Bruce and Steve.

Since when was someones lifetime acheivements measured by how many RIP's they got on a thread on Macgors? (Or likes on a Facebook post) How ridiculous and sad that someone thinks like that, all too common I guess in these days of (anti)social media.

The word "legend" is used far too much these days.
I dont use that word to describe anyone... But he sure could ride...
But speedway is a different place these days...
