Not a great many cars running for a NZ Title in Palmy this weekend, don't know why? the track will be mint.
I'm supposing there's reasonable prize money on offer ? ($7,500 ?)
I'm also supposing it's not too late for some more competitors to enter, be good if they did.
The Palmy pits are still open to the public, so its a great chance for fans of all ages to meet the drivers and put a face to the number, won't take long.
I'll be taking my camera.
NZ Sprintcar Grand Prix
18p Greg Pickerill 21w Stephen Taylor 28p Tony Uhlenberg 51m Rodney Wood 71a Jamie McDonald 77p Zac Harris 82p Jamie Larsen 84p Dean Cooper
Commentators curse but my picks are:
Stephen Taylor Jamie Larsen Zac Harris

Most of the top drivers will be heading down there for the International Sprintcars Series in two and a half weeks time.
Hard to justify two big trips in such a short time frame.

Got to love the write up on Taylor.....
"There's no doubting the blistering speed Stephen Taylor has and if he can stay upright and away from the wall or opposing cars he is a major winning chance."

Unfortunately despite having good prize money on offer, and a chance to get some laps in before the International Series meeting in a couple of weeks on Thursday December 6th, on a track that hasn't got built in judder bars on it, the entry list above looks like that's all that will be competing for this NZ Title.
Great sponsor exposure leaving it parked up in the shed.
2nd moan I've had on this board in a week, might ban myself soon.

Were the entries reopened to everyone or was it just open to those who had entered the original cancelled meeting last year?

Oh, thanks, I wondered about the exposure/damage ratio at the Springs verses Palmy even though the feature went 20 laps under green when Steve Kinser was last at Palmy and Jonathan Allard set the lap record on the same night. Guess the Springs wins. However, I do look forward to the International meeting at Palmy when there will be more cars.

Agree with Woodart Nelson is the place to be this weekend for Sprintcars for a round of the War of the Wings.Twenty odd cars at Nelson compared to eight at Palmerston for New Zealand GP.

Lol.... midway - do they even have the old hang over cure E N O anymore ? I thought I heard on the wireless that it went out with Brylcreem and Benzene, probably wrong....again. I'll buy some film and take my camera on Saturday night anyway. I am genuinely keen to go to the South Island for an extended holiday sooner or later to check out the Sprintcar action down there, my mate told me the War of The Wings Series with it's $100,000 prize pool really is awesome. I'm also genuinely curious - who is the current NZ Sprintcar GP title holder ? I can't seem to find the 2016 results anywhere.

:)Old Spice fragrance hasn,t lost its appeal ,nor does it have a negative effect Yes the South Island has some great shows ,and the people are or it seems very genuine to deal with specially in the smaller towns The War of Wings has a good turn out ,but so does another show we try to attend ,the Warbirds over Wanaka you would enjoy it . But we must not get off track Palmy has some good shows ,one that sticks in my mind was the use of a helicopter to dry the track out for a few international sprint car drivers that flew down under for a short series of meetings .

the last gp was a rain shortened one nighter in nelson. from memory there were about 23 cars . a few were missing as it was the week after the gold cup and NZ champs at ruapuna. you really need to get down and see some of the amazing speedway tracks in the sth. ruapuna and cromwell are awesome tracks that allow three wide racing, not one and hold your breath passing. proper speedway tracks.

Cromwell is certainly interesting track, weird shape and all. Ruapuna is the best SNZ track for sprintcar racing in NZ. I do like Dunedin as well, pity not running there between Gold Cup and GP.

18p Greg Pickerill 21w Stephen Taylor 28p Tony Uhlenberg 51m Rodney Wood 71a Jamie McDonald 77p Zac Harris 82p Jamie Larsen 84p Dean Cooper On the PN site Stuart Rose in on the list as well. I see that total prize money for GP is $2,500 more than the NI Sprintcar Championship on 12 January 2019. Small field but on the bright side at least all the competitors who front up today will get a piece of the prize pool pie. New Zealand Sprintcar Grand Prix Final Race (30 laps)
1st $2500 + Trophy & Sash 2nd $1500 + Trophy & Sash 3rd $1000 + Trophy & Sash 4th $750 5th $500 6th $450 7th $350 8th $200 9th $150 10th $100 Total = $7,500North Island Sprintcar Championship Race (30 laps)
