We became aware yesterday that Wanganui Warriors merchandise is being offered for sale on another website. We put out the following message:
It's really disappointing that someone is trying to make themselves rich by ripping off others' intellectual property. Our 2019 merchandise was only made public on Thursday night; by Saturday, someone was trying to sell copies at prices of up to 20% more than we are charging. I understand that the Waikato Wanderers and Christchurch Glen Eagles have been similarly affected, and I've heard that Sonia Hickey is not happy that official World 240's designs had been pirated and offered for sale.
Please; if you're buying team gear for ANY team, buy it from the team itself, not from a third party. Firstly, the teams are depending on merchandise sales to fund their racing. Secondly, there's no guarantee you will get the merchandise you pay for, and there is no comeback.
Our items were taken off the website within an hour of us going public, which has saved us the hassle of having to take further action, but here are some screenshots so you know the site to avoid. There are lots of sharks out there, so buyer beware!
The Wanganui Warriors management advises that they and Display Associates in Wanganui are the sole copyright holders for the 2019 Warriors merchandise, and that people buying merchadise from a third party, and not the official Warriors page do so at their own risk. We have made no third party arrangements, and note that the articles being offered for sale are more expensive on the third party site than on our own.
We'd love to see Arena Manawatu flooded in Warriors gear, but only that which is purchased from the team itself. Any profits we make from the sale of merchandise go directly to the team, and not into some opportunist's pocket.
We would really appreciate this post being shared far and wide, so that as many people as possible are informed of this situation, which is also affecting other teams and speedway venues.
