I'm sure there will be something special to mark the occasion in 2021 as the Tank design is coming up to it's 50th anniversary, a massive achievement for any car design. Congratulations to the originators and the huge number of cars that followed. Bruce Robertson racing the first Tank at Teams Champs 2012 Shortly before the late Bob Jamieson became unwell I visited him in his home with Brendon Lucas and Howard Lockwood and Bob let me take quite a few photo's of his albums. With the 50th Anniversary of the Tank coming up I thought it would be a good time to post a few. Jamieson's Garage was where Bob Jamieson, Bruce Roberston, Howard Lockwood and others in their dedicated crew created the very first Tank. The garage is still there, it's about 2 minutes walk from my house so I thought I'd show you a then and now picture. The car on the forecourt is Howard Lockwood's car. Tank number 2 built by Dave Evans

Hell I grew up watching this car in the mid to late 70s, the coolest car and one of the best drivers ever....life was so easy back then!

Wait .... if Bruce was 30 when he designed and built the tank with the Jamieson Garage team... and it’s the 50th anniversary ...😳
Does that Bruce 80? And I hear a whisper that he’s the the new promoter at Western Springs too? So now runs
Palmerston North Meanee Speedway - Hawke’s Bay Waikaraka Park - Auckland Western Springs - Auckland
Man, I wonder what his fountain of youth is (Money? No speedway naturally haha) and then I gotta wonder which speedway is next for the taking of the Robertson Speedway empire?
I guess Baypark would be logical - or following his proximity record perhaps Huntley
Either way and awesome 50th to be celebrated and cool to see the latest version of a tank coming out of the Rees Race Cars workshop this year. Could even be two 2020 tanks in the Giants?
Congratulations to all

I'm sure there will be something special to mark the occasion but this season the Tank design is coming up to it's 50th anniversary, a massive achievement for any car design. /url] I too remember the Rees tank debut, what a night that was to open the season. Fortunately someone was there to capture it. What a way to test a brand new car haha

Tank #3 is being restored in Taranaki by Richard Hart. This is Great Britain Lions driver and current World F1 Stockcar Champion Tom Harris testing Peter Rees Tank at Harrisville prior to the 2012 ENZED Teams Champs.

The original Tank design resulted in many variations, the most modern one I suppose is the Spank. This is the first "Robert James Tank" that Elvis Rowlands bought last week and will restore it back to exactly the same as when Robert James built it new in Feilding. I went to school with Robert, he was good at cricket and wore his cricket leg pads when he raced too. Robert bought the famous 2p Cobra car and put that engine in this car, and the flames around the radiator and Cobra head on the bonnet. Elvis has located the original 2p Stockcar trailer but hasn't found the original Cobra engine, but in any case it will have a very similar engine and will look, sound and run mean. Elvis already races his own Classic Stockcar and his son Byron races Stockcar 97p, it'll happen when it happens but he is motivated to get the car done, can't wait to see and hear it on the track. Good luck mate. This is what it will look like, plus more of Robert in action: Stand by fordracer If you have facebook this link might work: www.facebook.com/goslidewaystv/videos/297757501579713/?t=1The next car Robbie built was this one:

Who built the Roberts supertanker, always looks about the same width as length to me even though I know it isn't.

Keven Roberts GC Peter Rees Tank #1 - I asked him "but where's the mufflers?" and he said "Shhsh be quiet about that" which I thought was ironic because it was loud a hell. Tank 1NZ Josh Prentice The Green Hornet Miers Motorsport Tanks Peter Rees & Jack Miers gregobro I have hundreds of Tank pictures from 2009 onwards that I have taken. I'll sort them into one folder. I'm sorry I don't know who the Christchurch Tank driver was at Palmy in 2011

I actually really like the 53p Supertanker. I always joked it looked like it was designed in centimetres and built in inches lol. SWP had a great photo years ago that he called something like operation desert storm. It was taken at an an abandoned teams champs night and showed The SuperTanker kicking up a huge dust cloud.
