Unlike 88p who seems to have backed out (going by vid of race) and carried on after driving in behind the pileup??

Last night was well worth the six hour round trip to attend.
The team at Rotorua gets so many things right and just when you think they've mastered a speedway meeting they find something else which improves the show. Early running of the repechage is a great idea but it does leave a gap between that and the main show. Enter the concept of a pre-show featuring a former 1nz parade (complete with Kevin Free in race suit!!), integrated with the traditional grand parade and a Maori cultural performance. All topped off by Darcy Hunters kids singing the national anthem. It was brilliant.
They make so many things look easy you wonder how other tracks manage to stuff it up. The commentary team are well polished with Paul Hickey providing the play by play and officiating (locals cars exempted), Barry Brown the analysis and Mintie the relentless pit updates bringing the action in the pits to the fans. Everything just clicks during the show, they make intelligent decisions. Heck, even the referee got applause for his explanation of the situation in the final heat. People applauding SNZ officials - what is the world coming to!!
I believe Asher Rees is the best Superstock driver at the moment. When the track goes slick he was the one driver able to utilise the lower reaches of the track without compromising his speed. This is a driver who had to overcome injury adversity.
Randall Tarrant has been a superb ambassador for our sport as New Zealand champion. He raced superbly over the two nights and could have been a podium factor had it not been for heat two. Looking at the merchandise on display he has gained some fans since Wanganui.

Looking at the merchandise on display he has gained some fans since Wanganui. Asher has consistently been the fastest car in the country for a couple of seasons now. This season however, he's not putting in the massive hits that have cost him titles and races in the past. He's still hitting, but his approach is more measured, and he's not wrecking so much gear. I'm still not a fan of the bodyless "nude": Rees cars, but with three of them on the podium, you can't deny that Peter builds a bloody good chassis! PS - And I echo Percy's comments about Randal Tarrant; he has been a superb ambassador for the sport.

Randall Tarrant has been a superb ambassador for our sport as New Zealand champion. He raced superbly over the two nights and could have been a podium factor had it not been for heat two. Looking at the merchandise on display he has gained some fans since Wanganui. The pre-show was so moving. The only thing that went wrong was the Randy T was supposed to do one more lap on his own before the Maori challlenge. Other than that it ran flawlessly, and I thought it magnificent. One of the things that makes Rotorua so great Percy is that everybody involved has each other's back 100%, from Sonja and the promotion to back room staff and Stan and the track staff (the unsung heroes of the weekend in my eyes) to the officials to the commentary team. And it is a team. It's so much fun, even if two of us are broken down old crocks, and for that I thank Paul Hickey and Mintie Mead. The relationship with the SNZ officials there allows us access and information we don't always get at other tracks, because they trust us to do the right thing with what they tell us, or see. That trust also allows us to get people like Rod McNaughton live on air at a crucial point of the championship. Unbelievable. I thought he actually deserved a round of applause for his sensible decision making at the time of the big multi-car tangle, in the interests of the championship. It also led to 15 minutes of quiet mid-race to get some amazing insights from the drivers concerned. Still didn't beat the Damian Orr interview however. Amazing attitude too from Ethan Rees too. Points leader, would have beaten Asher with a top 5 finish from memory, and he was just fine with his demise. Another champion in waiting. Cody McKee went into the weekend as a virtual unknown and came out a star. What an effort from a first year Superstock driver. He was certainly the feelgood story of the weekend, I mean the week, and as an Aucklander it's nice to have a driver to watch on the National stage. Randy T, what a superstar. Black and Gold bling paint job for his final hurrah as 1nz was so special. It took 6 days to get it done, but I think once we all catch up on lost sleep we'll only remember the final two days. And they were pretty special, even for this old timer...

Randy T really was the people’s champion I thought carried the title with pride in unusual times people could relate to the story behind the guy I hope with a season off we will see him return ,Ethan Rees is a class act a true driver gets on with the job can be ruthless if there’s payback coming but it seems to end there he will shake you hand and move on , his time will come ? I hope so anyway.Congratulations to Asher just a class driver and builder of cars he has risen through all sorts of turmoil but keeps winning which is the mark of the guy . Rotorua is the best track in the country hands down imho the only thing that I don’t like is the food lol .the commentary team of Paul , Barry, and Minty is 2nd to none all the insights and information I really enjoy it just flows and you can have a laugh and relate to what’s going on , To the drivers wow this class just keep taking it to another level season on season the work and cost of repairs is not cheep let alone the time spent between events is huge “thanks for the memories “ and good times 😁

106h, 591p out from finals and 19M Remnant Why was Kerry Remnant a DNS for heats 2 and 3? And a DNF in official results for heat 1 - but he crossed the finish line?

From Facebook, he was saving car for the GP in Huntly. His wages only go so far. Kind of weird if you ask me, I mean you spend thousands getting there, your sponsors spend thousands helping you, then at the biggest event of year with probably thousands watching online worldwide you decide to park it up and get no exposure for sponsors 😂. Oh well each to there own. I would have just gone out in both races, asked for 3min bell each race(as camera always then zooms in on that car) 😂😂 then done a lap or 3 and parked it.

Just thought it was a missed opportunity to get some sneaky air time or coverage for him and his car at the track. Hopefully he has a better run this weekend at huntly as he did show some good speed Friday night, or whatever night qualifying was, Tuesday? 😂

Only thing I’d disagree with is that the food isn’t great... I thought it was pretty good! Good selection. And only thing I didn’t like about the weekend were the smokers on the terraces. Well done Rotorua. Look forward to coming back!
