An enticing show at Waikaraka Park to open their season. Fields available on their facebook page www.facebook.com/waikarakaparkfamilyspeedway25 Stockcars (all locally registered), 19 Superstocks (18 carrying the A), 19 Saloons (18 carrying the A), 15 Streetstocks (14 carrying the A) and around a dozen Six Shooters. Show has variety and excellent fields across the board. At times in your development I think it's poignant to take a breath and look at what has been achieved. Wind the clock back 10-15 years Waikaraka Park was a mess. Hardly a Superstock registered, no communication, couldn't start a show on time and Aucklanders registering to other tracks. Turning around a ship is a long task which involves countless hours. These things don't happen overnight but are the culmination of many small things which add up over time to produce outcomes like this Saturday night. When you have good leadership, communicate well and consistently produce well run shows what happens is competitor numbers increase. When faced with a choice they register to your track or they come out of the woodwork, buoyed by the energy being generated. There are still work-ons as Waikaraka moves forward. The venue continues to be a limitation, programmes aren't great, website needs a redesign, race night social media etc. But lets take a moment and reflect on what has been achieved to date. The place bears little resemblance to the tough days of yesteryear. Competitor numbers are great and Waikaraka Park is producing consistently well run shows which start and finish at a decent hour. They are publishing entry lists well in advance of meetings. Well done to the team at Waikaraka Park and I hope to see the place continuing to improve in the post-covid era.

I dont think in all honesty your comment it was a mess is justified PERCY Yes i have been a critic ,but there have been some very hard working people that have tried to run that club and there also has been good racing a good track ,surface and theyve paid out good prize money and if i recall some got good travel money when they put on a show .. And back in the day when the PALL mall team raced there the place was packed out ,sure a good promoter has done some good there ,but as i understand it ,it is still club run and how many clubs have a few problems going forward over the years ...

That Grandstand was a setback. Wait till you see the new BIG Screen Will be interesting to see how the big screen is received by spectators this season. Something new and shiny to look at while the hard work to improve the venue slowly continues. For those that aren't aware, the Panasonic Team NZ big screen became availabe a couple of weeks ago and the club snapped it up. It has been a bit of a rush to get it to the park and set up, but at 10.8m x 5.7m HD it will be a great vehicle for improving the show. It has happened very quickly and now those involved are trying to figure out the content side of thngs. A few weeks warning of its arrival not really being engouh time to get fully up to speed. I am sure there are few media savvy people on Magors that might have a few ideas though.

A enjoyable night at Waikaraka tonight watching Superstocks and hearing that awesome engine sound again, race winners were 247a Hayden Chapman, 99a CJ Chessnut and 66a Randal Tarrant,CJ got quite a bit of damage after a pile up in race 3,3nz Gary Lonergan is the fastest Stockcar in Auckland with a win in race one and three,8a Logan Peat beat Gary to the line in race two, cool to start the season at the great Waikaraka Park 👍

Also thought it was a solid opener to the Waikaraka season. Solid fields across all classes with every race providing a point of interest. Show done and dusted in 3 hours, great stuff. I think there is merit in a 6pm start in the early & late season. Numerous parties left before the end despite it not being a late night. Crowd was ok though I thought there might have been a couple of hundred more. A lot of Aucklanders out of town for the long weekend.
- Luke McClymont is a wasted talent in Six Shooters. The guy can drive and he is maximising what is possible in that car. I would love to see him move to Midgets or Sprintcars to further his development. Head and shoulders the best in the six shooters tonight
- Amazing to see 99a CJ Chestnut drive away from the cream of the Auckland Superstock field in heat two. His pace and consistency was impressive
- 3nz Gary Lonergan was on a different level in the Stockcar division. Would have won all three races but for a final corner error which saw 8a Logan Peat take heat two. The car is fast and the driver knows what he is doing.
- The Lansdowne vs Amrein showdown in the Saloon feature was resolved in favour of the local. Amrein tried to throw a big move around the outside on the final corner but couldn't make it stick.
- Streetstocks a crowd favourite. Plenty of contact in their memorial feature. 11a copped plenty of attention having dominated proceedings in the early races. Good, old fashioned speedway.
How good is it to be able to sit in the stands and follow the action around the country on the speedhive app? Not only was there live lap scoring for what was happening in front of us but I could follow Baypark, Palmy and a number of other meetings.

Good to hear you enjoyed the action Percy ,how was the Hotdogs. If they showed the ladies world rugby cup on the big screen you may have to fasten your seat belt at the action ..
