The article doesn't advance anything we don't already know.
We know the stadium is out of action for the foreseeable future pending various damage assessments. How long for we don't know until the respective assessments are completed.
Lets be honest - nobody is repairing Western Springs Stadium for speedway or the Ponsonby rugby club. They'll be repairing it for concerts so lets hope lots of international artists want to come to Auckland next summer.

Firstly i wouldnt take alot notice what is printed from Stuff not exactly very reliable source. last major article they were saying western springs speedway was moving out lets see are still there ? all down engineers who actually know what they are talking about. not paper which seldom gets it correct.

It is just a matter of looking at other venues while the debacle over repairs etc exist . The extra pension money will help pay for additional costs in travel ..

Will they even need WS for concerts?

They also used the "outer fields" at WS for a concert last weekend.

From memory the Stuff article was correct, at the time the sub council organization running the council stadiums were having difficulties dealing with Eden Park Trust hence they decided to shuffle the decks within their other stadiums. All must be resolved now. Western Springs was also offered huge money to set up at Colin Dale Park by the council but that deal came to grief and an abrupt end which was well documented. Hasn't WS still got a closing date for speedway. As Percy said, it will be revamped for concerts not speedway or rugby.. Yes they have other outdoor concert venues but they are restricted to how many.

So it seems like another follows the pied piper and his team of rats when anything hits the head lines over the Springs .. Righting the Springs off as a Speedway venue with out all the given facts ,engineers reports etc ,decisions from council ,objections from those who care over the heritage of the sport that has graced it self there as a icon place world wide ,. And to think music concerts comply to all the decibel ratings ,i think its time some people need to take up lawn bowls for a sport in stead .

Was at Western Springs on Saturday just been for a concert in the Outer Fields. Got a look at the track while I was there and it wasn't pretty. Taking this time to get it back absolutely makes sense.

Remember the hue and cry when Rugby League shifted from Carlaw Park to Ericcison Stadium [ Mt Smart ], demise of the sport etc. Stadium hasn't let them down , players have. Springs neighbors on numerous occasion's over the years have objected to speedway but not objected to free concert over their fence. History of Speedway at the springs only apply to current older generation, rest couldn't give a toss.

Cant believe everything written in media wasnt Springs moving to new venue that wasnt even 100 % accurate were still going through procedures between RFA and Springs promotions. even came on national television saying that Springs were moving out Waikaraka park back 2018-19 season. then things changed they do when ppl believe whats written through grapevine. When Bruce Robertson took over contract were given 3 season with option of extending it for further 2 seasons. unless springs unable use stadium again still have least 2 seasons remaining on their contract.
