Great news out of Seamount Racing Stable.
DRIVER ANNOUNCEMENT 2023/2024 🏁
Seamount Racing are doing something different this year to mix things up and to keep the sport of midget racing alive we need new comers in the class. Team principal Brett Morris did just that back in 2001 when he took a punt on a young Michael Pickens. There have been many drivers in the Seamount stable over the past 23 years but none as successful as Michael his record is unsurpassed.
Brett & Leigh Morris of Seamount Racing look year to year for opportunities to help out in the sport.
This year they will run two cars to reflect where each of us came from Brett from Pt Chevalier Auckland and Leigh from Arataki, Mt Maunganui home of the old Baypark we will run a car under each banner A and M.
The new driver of #4m TRD Bullet will be Luke McClymont from Tauranga. This is a dream come true and a big step up for Luke from the family owned six shooter he currently runs.
Leigh attended the Baypark Speedway awards evening recently and met Luke, his parents and grandparents and saw a family that were dedicated to keeping racing as part of who they all are. The McClymont family have a long and successful history in speedway.
Luke has a very impressive racing resume for someone so young and definitely has a competitive nature as shows in his results to date. 🏁
The #4a BB7 Esslinger Bullet will be a shared drive with Connor Clarke, Leigh’s son & Sam Dashfield. This is to recognise the help that both Connor & Sam have put in to the team in the past.
They each were offered 3 meetings fully funded by Seamount Racing and will work together to help as crew when not in the drivers seat.
Connor is a mechanic by trade and now runs his fathers fabrication workshop. He raced a Quarter midget for 4 years with his brother’s Kelvin & Taylor Clarke and his latest pastime has been dirt karting at Meremere every opportunity he gets. It has been a long time dream of Connor’s to get a drive in a midget but being a Dad to two boys he has a very busy life.
Sam is no stranger to the Motorsport world, with a background in karting, he is very competitive in the Mazda series in his Seamount sponsored RX8 which he is continuing with this season. He is employed at Hampton Downs as a track driver doing laps around the track with paying customers and has recently returned from Queenstown where he was a driver in the Audi & Ferrari snow and ice experience. Sam is also owner & director of One7 which is a design & signage business.
We would like to take this opportunity to wish Jack Low and his Dad Blair all the best in their future business venture which is where their focus will be. We will still see Jack in his family owned car and hopefully at some North Island meetings during the season, you may not recognise him as he’s lost his locks. 🏁
