Believe it or not there is a New Zealand TQ Title on this coming weekend.
Think I count 49 entries in the Nelson Speedway Facebook page. An excellent entry list
The TQ class is quietly enjoying a very good season with strong fields across the country. Fireworks weekend saw 4 different tracks running the class with no fewer than 64 cars on the track across the country.
Plenty of contenders with Humble, Barker, Dorrell, Tyler, Hunnibell, MacGregor and Todd all in attendance from the North Island. McCoubrey, Webb, Hill and Corkill perhaps the best of the southerners. Plenty of smokies who could surprise. Frost, Warnock, Thompson and maybe Ethan Smith could do something to shake up the pecking order? Any of our southerners have another contender I've missed?
A bit concerned to see Sprintcars also on the card as they could make track preparation challenging but I'm sure the Nelson team know what they are doing.
Aaron Humble has been racing down at Nelson a fair bit this season. Taking his title defence very seriously and is perhaps the favourite to win again. He leads the TQ feature win list so far this season, the only driver to stand 3 times on top of the podium in the class.
Has potential to be a great TQ Title.

Let's hope they've all done the required minimum meetings.

TQ racing continues it's current resurgence and I doubt there would be many if any in the stands these days that refer to it as a ''Hotdog'' class anymore. This is one of the most open championships in years with a lot of laps to be run before even starting the final. The 5 qualifying heats for each driver will reward consistency then it's balls out for the final. Last season's title fight at Meeanee was nothing short of spectacular and Nelsons will no doubt be the same if not more intense. Webb was the last driver to win a title at Nelson but there wasn't the fast young ex Ministock Kids about then who stamp on the gas like they are still driving an underpowered Dato. I can't wait to get down there thanks to Jas at Pits Media and see the track for the first time. Good luck to all the drivers and whoever it is on night 2 on the top step, god darn you will have earnt it.

A bit concerned to see Sprintcars also on the card as they could make track preparation challenging but I'm sure the Nelson team know what they are doing. Sounds like it might be a 1 lane track. Mate in Nelson said they won't be able to grade track tonight as too late with resource consents, weather tomorrow hot and dry, so tomorrow night will be worse, TQ, Sprintcars and Superstocks racing all on big soft tyres
