This Weekend sees another round of the War of the Wings sprint car series at Ruapuna speedway.Last weekend saw Greymouths Greenstone speedway host round 3 of the series. The USA drivers Joel Myers jnr and Brenham Crouch were probaly jostling for favourtism in the feature race but it was Max Guilford 79m that took the feature win with Joel Myers jnr 2nd and Brenham Crouch 3rd.Myers did put a slider on Guilford mid race but Guilford came back to pull away for the win.I see the Midget entries for Saturday night looking quite good so i guess that is getting boosted by the North islanders coming for early practice for the NZeds on the 3rd and 4th of February at Ruapuna.

Shame it’s one of the only nights where Ruapuna and Woodford Glen clash, would have liked to go to both but not to be

Good meeting over all, Track was certainly dry/slick and proved a challenge throughout all classes. However after restarts in the war of the wings feature lapped cars were gridded up infront of place getters, It was abit odd.

Midgets Feature.
Auckland drivers clean up. Brad Mosen dominates. Great to have him back racing.

Sounds like SNZ making ridiculous calls again regarding the Midget Feature race.
A big worry with NZ Title coming up.

Sounds like SNZ making ridiculous calls again regarding the Midget Feature race. A big worry with NZ Title coming up. If its the Mosen disqualification- he didnt cross the scales, and I understand drivers had been told. Brad said his radio wasn't working properly. Maybe a simple reminder on run down lap that says 'SCALES' would help drivers who have just raced their butts off for a heap of laps. That would atleast remind them I hear B Clarkson is referee for NZs

Went to the final round today at Ellemere, wow, what a race the final was !!
Fairly tough conditions, turned up with 26 degrees but the promise of a rapid change in the weather mid afternoon, and the call to start the show an hour early paid off as the wind changed suddenly and was very strong and light rain around for the final few races
Connor Rangi started the day taking the quick time in the trials and breaking the lap record in the process. Duff put it on its side and didn’t record a time
The final, probably nearly the worst conditions I’ve watched a race in, light rain, very strong wind straight into the face with a track at 9/10 on the dust scale, cars running high were sending hard bits into the crowd too. Connor Rangi got away from Myers at the start and led the majority of the race, Myers had a lunge around the mid point of the race and went around in turn 4, but kept the boot in it and recover into 4th place behind Duff who had worked through the field and Guildford. He cleared Guildford, got onto the back of Duff, and the top 3 ran as close to the fence as you could without binning it, and all 3 nearly binned it. 2 laps to go Rangi came up onto a couple of back markers with a pretty decent lead in hand, but probably wasn’t aggressive enough to get by allowing Duff and Myers to close in, and entering turn 3 on the last lap it was Rangi, Duff, Myers, and coming out of turn 4 and to the flag it was Myers, Rangi, Duff as Myers blew around them on the outside to take the win, Duff riding the wall coming to the line trying to get Rangi
Rangi off for a North Island campaign next week and hopefully his rapid improvement can continue and he will be a bit of a dark hose in the big meetings, I’d say he learnt a lesson in lapped traffic at the end of the race today

Well said Spuddy what you said was exactly my sentiments. The Sprint car Feature was top class entertainment. The Hydraulink War of Wings series pulled in the spectators today would have been Ellesmeres biggest gate in twenty years. This small club put up their hand for a round of this series and it paid off. Also noting that the field had two North island entrants. All the previous rounds of the WOW were run at Speedway SNZ tracks and this final round at Ellesmere a CTRA sanctioned track.Another interesting fact was all officiating staff were a mixture of SNZ and CTRA people. Some things can work when you have like minded people that are there for the benefit of the sport.
