Liked much of what I saw at Huntly last night. Started on time, ran a sensible schedule and produced a good meeting. Yes, it ran for 5 hours but when some teams are doing 3 races on the night that's the sort of length the show becomes.
First time I've heard the commentator down there and I must say, very impressed. Good voice to listen to, has a great tempo and had a solid understanding of what was going on. I think they've unearthed a really good talent.
They had the electronic lap scoring running live in many of the teams races and it added so much to the experience. We had a couple of races where the leader was 2-3 laps ahead and either got taken out or blocked for laps. To be able to follow the action and make sense of what we were seeing in front of us made the experience so much better. Please tracks, keep the lap scoring live for teams racing and ignore the irrational fear that sees some tracks keep the lap scoring secret.
Some of the teams racing was interesting. More enthusiastic than intellectual at times but at least it was entertaining for the most part. Waikato could be a factor at the NZ title but they will need someone to step up and be a top class runner to compliment the outstanding blocking that Brad Philpott provides.
A couple of negatives, the big one being the absurd amount of time it takes 8 Stockcar drivers to form a grid. It was embarrassing at times and it's got to the point where we need some rules to speed up the process. Hopefully for the NZ title this can be addressed. Running both Productions and Ministocks was disappointing. The support Stockcars were fantastic but support program could have done with another entertainment class for the $35 entry fee.
Finally. I don't know what it will take before the sport runs sensible numbers of Youth Ministocks. Running 30 at once on an ultra slick track was asking for trouble and trouble happened in the form of a nasty multi-car pile-up. At last years AGM I believe there was a discussion about the jump in Youth Ministock injuries. If anyone wants the answer this was Exhibit A.
Overall a good night and a solid scene setter for the NZ Title.

Was very poor form from the Stratford Stormers crew spitting there dummies at a driver while he was being interviewed by The Pits Media team. If you have an issue go and see the ref/officials don't bad mouth a driver while they are doing a live interview, very disrespectful, bad for the sport and your sponsors.

Overall a good night and a solid scene setter for the NZ Title. The raiders have struggled with not having a top class runner since Brett Aikens retired but hopefully the emerging young talent of Matt Shaw, Jayden Dreadon and William Whyte they will have a strong team for plenty of years to come. Looks like they have a couple more decent blockers in their stocks as well. As for the track, I bet nobody expected it to turn black instantly but it appeared to come back as the night cooled off.

That 99h and 361h will be assets for years to come, 45h and 24h did awesome too, hard to pick another team that could beat them

The reigning Champions Alleycats are as good as the Raiders & it would be a fitting final if the draw allows. Vulcans aren't far off the pace either. Had the Crushers entered then there is a third team to seriously challenge the Raiders too. And as a dark horse the Gladiators should also be taken with a lot more than a pinch of salt. I don't think the trophy has the Raiders name on it at all just yet.

From what I have observed this year a few teams are yet to race their top line-up yet so I predict any one of at least 6 teams will be in with a chance. Palmy, Wellington and Stratford all capable and Rotorua won the Palmerston team invasion pre xmas so expect luck on the day to be a deciding factor.
