If you go on the Central Motor speedway site look under registered drivers Methanol Masters and you will see the list of 45 year old drivers and over on there. That is the main criteria being 45 and over.A few interesting drivers from the past listed ,North and South island. It is 20 years since i have raced but i suppose if there was a Sprint car at my disposal i would have ago too.In fact the last time i raced was at the NZ 2004 Sprint car Title at Ruapuna and Phil Game was running there also.

will be interesting to see how some of these guys go but despite the organisers touting the return of the legends- there are very few legends in the line up. it looks like a round of the Southern Sprintcar series plus a few. It will however be an outstanding social occasion so they need to be applauded for that.

Yes it will be interesting to see how every one goes.I believe the format is oldest off the front grids Bill Buckley and then probaly Owen Shaw etc etc.I hear a few drivers have been going to the gym for the last few months that gets the physical part done i dont know about the mental part.As you said hottamale it is good social occasion before and after the event.

Am I the only one apprehensive about this concept?
Sprintcar racing isn't tiddlywink's. These are high horsepower weapons of mass destruction in the wrong hands. There has been plenty of comment on here about the driving of a slightly older Auckland Sprintcar driver who returned to the sport. What level of control are some of these drivers going to have?
According to the driver database Bill Buckley is 81 years old. I'm sure he's in great health and fit as a fiddle but the question has to be asked. How old is too old to get behind the wheel of a modern day Sprintcar? Tommy Rusher was much younger when he was effectively retired from the sport.
Add in the prospect of an oldest to the front race and the whole deal has me feeling uneasy.

Interesting thoughts Percy ,maybe it is time to think about super stocks and the rest of the sport where its heading and the speed they go .. Remember this Percy many a good tune is played on a old fiddle ,Kenny Smith and my self are not 21 no more ,but enjoy not watching the grass grow on the side of tar seal .

Drivers like Dave Kerr and Jason Scott are fast and when the juices start flowing one or two of the long retired or never raced a sprintcar before guys may wonder why they did it. I hope this has a happy ending.

So in your mind Percy tell us the age you think should be the capping point or retirement from Sprintcars ,..So i can tell Mr COLSON who turns 71 at28th of this month

I guess Speedway NZ are happy with the planned conduct of the meeting. At what point do drivers have to start from the back of the field anyway due to inexperience, or years of inactivity? Lapped traffic will happen quickly regardless

Lapped traffic will happen quickly regardless SNZ were happy to let the Sprintcars and Modifieds take their wings off a few year back I don't see how this is any different. Suspect self preservation will be a pretty strong instinct is this situation

Practice session on Friday and a round of golf.Socialising on Friday night,i guess there will be some stories told though there might be some cars needing repairs also.Talking to Davey Kerr he is looking forward to it.Took out the CTRA NZ champs at Ellesmere last weekend after a rough first heat.Iam sure he will have that Ford powered Sprinter close to the front.

Would be awesome to see RB in the CAE down there as well. Believe it is under restoration, so watch this space. Didn't PG own the 27 wako car as well?
Is that in attendance?

This meeting certainly showed a lot of interest on social media which was enjoyable to watch . Good to see Bill Buckley enjoying himself as age was no barrier ,did he make the podium on points he must of been close .

Have just watched Jase from Pits Media give his run down of the meeting. Popularity of meeting caught everyone off guard, bigger crowd than Super Saloons Nationals. Phil Game leading, broke rockers, lost 2 cylinders.
