The Oceanview wall (Read 1,519 times)

Favourable autumn and early winter weather has been awesome for our crew building the new wall at Oceanview Speedway. The old wall was demolished immediately after our final meeting at the start of April, and work began straight away on replacing the back straight and town bend sections which are almost completed. Huge ups to Cam Jurgens and his team for the demolition, and to Tom Francis and his crew for the rebuilding. As you'll see in the photos the lip on the foot of the wall goes all the way around, and there's a notch near the top of the wall all the way around for the recessed LED lights.

It's a massive investment for the Wanganui Stockcar and Speedway Club but one that will futureproof Oceanview for many years yet. Here are a few snaps from the Oceanview Speedway Facebook page.

Track looks wider, has it been widened?? .

I assume the lip at the bottom of the wall helps cars ride up the wall a lot smoother and with less impact than what some other tracks have.

The fact that a smaller club like Wanganui can find the resources/money to replace their entire wall is fantastic and I hope other clubs (with old damaged walls/flat walls) have taken note and will reach out to someone from the Wanganui club to find out how they accomplished this.

It’s been a significant financial undertaking for the Wanganui SSC. it’s been helpful to have had the three Superstock SNZ titles over the last four seasons and that has allowed the Club to plough money back into facilities. The wall is the biggie though, but the old wall was no longer up to scratch..
