Hi ya PAZ32s,im sure that it was a husband and wife duo, they did a tour with there flying wedged shape cars. The Butchers i think was there name,i may be wrong there though ( a few rums have sailed past since then ) I worked for the old Baypark promoyion when tyey bought out that Aussie Test Team in th e early ninties, and i know it cost a hell of a lot off money way back then. Im pretty sure both Ian and the late Ross, lost a big pocket full off money having them out here.

There were the Butchers and also Gordon Smee and someone else at some stage in the early 80s, they ran US late model style wedge cars and raced in Wellington against Rod Clifton (RX7) and Peter Sloman (Monza) also raced in Palmy maybe a different year against Dave Gilbertson in his Mini and Peter Sloman in a Monza. From memory the Mini was about 1/3 the length of the Aussie cars!
I think that both tours went to a few tracks doing 4x4 races with the locals.

The Butchers went to Blenheims opening meeting in '83? Ran in Nelson as well. Brian Jenkins and John Guthrie in their VW's plus Andrew Satherly in his Mini. Rod Penn battled them in his Commodore with the likes of Doug Smith in his Howe USA Camaro there too!!
Awesome racing with awesome cars.!!!!!!!!

i remember the butchers in stratford circa 83/84, racing against jago, blondie etc, apparantly before they went to stratford they hadnt been beaten(dunno how many meetings they had had before then) until mr chamberlain wowed the crowd and kicked aussie butt, the atmosphere in the stadium was nothing short of electric after blondies performance, alan jago wasnt very far behind them either, some of the other drivers were the likes of allan george, frank pierce, graham old(in herbie) and some new bloke by the name of colson, will never forget that meet

I remember the Butchers, Alan and Denise coming to Auckland one season with these wedge looking cars. Denise owned a race clothing shop making overalls when i was in Oz in 2002/03. Alan was still racing what is now called Late Models.
