Great stuff Gordon, haven't seen that page for a few years. Look at the huge crowd, this is second season Waikaraka 1968/69 and I think the $1,100 race meet.
Front row: #1 Phil Joyce, #15 Graham Stennerson, 2nd row is #28 Lawrie Hines and a Rotorua car, maybe Kevin Pestorius. I can see #2 Wee Mac back there in the first of his Fiat bodied cars, this particular one went on to Val Joyce and then Owen Shaw.
Gavin.

The early Waikaraka days pulled huge crowds for all meetings. When Warren Black held a daylight meeting on a Sunday or Monday of a holiday weekend the crowds were massive. The 1968/69 $1100 race meeting was probably the biggest ever, the grandstand was full top and bottom, the cowds standing in front of the grandstand was about 6 deep and as you can see from this photo the Nielson St corner and back straight were full. The track was extended a few years later towards Neilson Street, this is the original layout before all the earthwork banking. The pits were at the Cemetry end and through the gate into the current car park. Photo from Russell Luke and the Hisconz archives. $1100 race meeting. 66 Dave Irvine, 75 Peter Howarth, 26 Gary Nazer, 15 Graham Stennerson in the foreground. Pall Mall is taking photos over by the yellow tyre marker!

The car along side 28 on the start line is 73, the drivers name in the programme was Dick Stedmances while along side 40 is 26 Gary Nazer. In the colour shot the car behind 15 is 40 Ken McClintock of Rotorua. George Wharehoka won the 1968/69 NZChamps in this car. On the far side the red car looks like 9 Pat Barry of the Triang Scalextric team.

The thingy thing is computer generated, his first name starts with a D. Is this Historic stock car 29 owned by Mike Watson? Guess I will have to pull the video out to try and recognize the red and orange cars. There can't have been many E types so it shouldn't take you long. If I knew how to throw a picture up I would but it's just as easy for me to email you, LOL.

So the board is still not allowing D i c k? Bit early for the Watson car. There are Rotorua experts out there who know all about the Jags. I know there were at least two Jags. Here is one: Ross Baker. The Bakers and Ken Richardson were probably responsible for all the Rotorua E Types. Thought I would throw this in for interest. 10 Hon. Bill Clarkson MP! Imagine Winston in a stockcar!!

Two E Type Jaguar bodied stock cars?? I thought there was only one?!?! Ross Orr #7 raced an E Type out of Rotorua's Rugby Park track. He also raced it during the 1968/69 season. 1970/71 it was in the hands of Russ McKnight as #12R out of the new track at Paradise Valley Raceway. Henry Phillips raced it after that as #12R for a while and then it ifnished its days in the hands of Allan Page as #28R. I have a photo of it sitting in a wreckers yard during the mid 70s located at Koutu Corner at the botom of Clayton Road. Sadly the car is long gone now.

I knew you would know.
According to a Waikaraka programme from way back the #7 car is said to be a Ross Baker car?! And somewhere I have seen an article linking the E types to the Baker stable, hmmmmmm, interesting.
I will try and find all the photos I have including the one you mention and you can identify them, maybe a new thread.

I will drag this old thread back to life with a couple of Waikaraka photos from 1968. The first is similar to the ones on Macgor's link and shows part of the huge crowd that attended in those days, the other is a great after meeting shot of WP totally deserted. Photos by Russell Luke.

The 66H of Dave Irvine, (no rally of Frank Irvine) was sold to Ian Jenkins who raced at Forest Lake for a few years and the car never changed. Had a 3.3 cresta in it and was in the STOCKCAR TEAMS RACING with Snoopy, Featherston Free Balls ETC. His racing campaign was very successful. Ian would take the car down the farm at seasons end and park it under a tree and when stockies started again dig it out new battery in and go racing. Thats when you could go racing on wages. HA
