awesome photos of one of my favourite cars - thanks pall mall.
And how cool is the body on rick campbells car? What a stunner.
I seem to recall the ex highbar was sold to one of rick campbells crew, and was going to reappear at some stage...hopefully?

This car was an absolute machine in the hands of Proctor and when flying around the track was a missile that was extremely hard to keep up with yet stop! My favourite track to watch him at was Wanganui where he would throw the car into the corners awesome machine and probably my favourite handling car! I think the guy that had the car after Proctor was Peter Botma where it was sorta changed and was called godzilla i think! ;D

44A was Peter Botma, then it was 35A driven by Dion fraser. Here are a couple more photos of the car around the time that SNZ decided that high bars were illegal although the rule book was non specific. Clark Proctor is shown holding a photo of the #22 Ross Manhire car with high bars from 1956/57.

Here are a couple more photos of the car around the time that SNZ decided that high bars were illegal although the rule book was non specific. I understood at the time the SNZ interpretation on this issue was that because it was attached to the rollcage it forms part of the cage and must be fully enclosed by the body. I enquired some time later with SNZ seeking clarification however I no longer have the response. I think the reasoning behind it was that as it was not specifically allowed for in the rules so no you cant run them. So it was one of those rules that the rulebook does not specifically allow or prevent. When you look at the placement of the hibars on clarks car (photo above) its clear that they do not extend down to the front bumper so you could argue that you are already in the $hit and are likely to be rolled. To me hibars as per the Proctor pic just serve to prevent other cars coming straight into the front of the rollcage which cannot be a bad thing. PS some more great photos from the archive pallmall

I remember from the time, that a discussion was held in Tauranga, that had the car been built by any other chassis builder that i would most likely to be acceptted ! But because it was Clark and around the time off the forming off the Todd & Pollock Baypark Busters, with all off the imported drivers as such, that SNZ were not pleased.
But that is history now, and we have seen plenty off questionable decisions made by SNZ over many years, some good and some crazy !
But hey, its only my opinion, Bazza

I thought Clark's car looked awesome with the highbars, totally unbalanced with them cut out.
Of course Richie Wright got caught up in the furore at the same time as well, and the NZDTR article contained pics of his car too, although this was not as complete as Clark's car.
The irony was, Clark and Richie were both building similar chassis (well as far as the highbars went anyway) unbeknown to each other, only about 15 minutes apart in Otahuhu and Mount Wellington. SNZ inspected them both on the same day, and banned them shortly after. Another irony of course was that the Graham Pegg car, also driven by Shane Anderson, had previously been passed as being okay down at the Huntly track.

the car is believed to be still running out of rotorua as a stock carThanks for the pic mat14H...car is not currently running out of Rotorua tho... is sitting in my shed nearly ready to race again. Last time I raced it was a couple of years ago out of Huntly as 26h It no longer has the high bars but otherwise looks almost exactly the same (different bonnet)... It is low, wide, easy to drive and extremly strong... it's built like the preverbial brick outhouse... the car is a credit to Graham Pegg who built it... the car is 16/17 years old and still going strongCame across this old pic, any closer to hitting the track?
