Dunedin: Great Racing - Poor Event (Read 1,235 times)

The Racing: Superb, TC deserved his 4th title, what a champion, the best ever, the stats don't lie.

The Event: The time it took to get the first race mobile was a disgrace, the officials took 15-20 minutes to get the race going and all nite there were long delays to get races underway. I am not referring to the 3 championship races, you expect delays when so much is at stake, and same goes for the delay in announcing results. But by 7pm after 1 hour, we had barely had one race! Why couldn't the track packing have started earlier?

But a NZ title is a chance for a circuit to promote itself, Dunedin missed the boat. At one point we had a bloke change his tyre on the track only for the officials then to say he could not race, what a waste of time! They looked disorganised and weak. It was VERY frustrating.

The program was cheap, $3, but it was worth that, hardly any info and photos of a few drivers but nothing special, another opportunity missed.

The backup races were awful, all saloons and small fields (not helped by retirements admittedly).

Finally, a point to ponder. TC may not have won if another car had DNFed in the final heat. He passed 3, 5 & 5 cars in each of the 3 heats. Boulton passed 5, 2 & 1 car. He benefitted massively by the attrition rate in H3. Sure he raced superbly in H2 to beat the caddy (but I wouldn't write home about that, the bloke needs to go back to the golf course) & Emerson (who is a brilliant driver but got stuffed by the golfing loon). TC was the best driver on the nite yet he could have missed out. I guess thats motor-racing.

Congrats TC, you are a superstar.

well what a post, way to rip apart everything, great first post

not sure where you are from but im sure you will be putting up you hand next time your club holds an nz title,

IT takes alot of time and effort, and simetimes things happen you cant expect ( dunners had a wet track at the start of 2nd night, but the fog did roll in a slow the drying process down, great later in teh night but not what was expected, there lap scoring stopped on the first night (so i overheard )
I thought the racing was great in teh support classes, maybe with the exception of teh superstocks
The supper was awesome, and people looked to be having fun at the after racing function

I remember the first night of teh super saloon in chch year ago, was 130 amish when racing finished next night was 12 ish protests are expected hence no results

yes there were a small hicups with the lap scores for more read teh BRT site
we at cromwell have already started working on next years event and having the event in dunners this year makes it slightly easier coz we can impove n the thing we think needed improving on and run with the things that worked

oh and wait until 24 cars head into turn 1 in the final at cromwell YEA HA

so can i count on your imput in the running of the event TCchamp?? or will you sit back and critise

Well i will put my 10 cents worth in on this one.
As this was the first nz champs i have missed in a number of years i will present my opinion.
The track prep and condition throughout the event was superb (taking into account it is an impossible task to present a perfect track for big wheeled classes for 2 nights),i take my hat off to the track guys.Drivers were in each and every race given the chance to thumbs up or down before racing commenced which was fantastic,none of this 1st lap pile up due to a slippery surface.The drivers themselves drove fantastically and i can't recall an nz champs with such little damage,to which again alot of credit must go to the track people.The strong point i will make is that i have never ever come across so many drivers being called up for the most absolutely ridiculas things ever,the penalties being passed out for ridiculas matters was totally unacceptable.For such clean fantastic close good racing, i must say i was totally mistified on so many occasions and it affected the results something cronic.This was the only item i could fault on an extremely well run event.

I'm from Christchurch & maybe I am just too used to the Glen's slick approach to running a meet. I am not complaining about the late finish, as I said, you have to expect delays at championship meets. But delays of getting support races started was frustrating.

GandTphotos, I'll give praise where it's due too fella, but I think Dunedin deserves a serve for Sat. nite. I am not a lone voice, there were plenty of people sitting near me who were swearing and cursing. Did you hear the cheers when they finally got one of the races underway?

Or maybe you were not even there, there were no Superstock support races, well at least on Sat. when I went, don't know about Friday.

I have a right to express an opinion as I paid $20 to get in, and travel, accom to get to Dunedin.

And I still had a fantastic night, speedway is a great sport and far from wanting to pull down my fellow lovers of the dirt, I think what I said was a fair comment.

for the record i had nothing to do with the dunner super saloon campaign other than photos, but will be helping on the cromwell campaign. and i am in chch as well

From a spectators point of view who travelled from Auckland - Entry prices fantastic, programme ok for $3, would rather have paid $5 for more in depth souveneir copy, food good, Caps nice ( bought one ), T shirts disappointing ( was going to get two before I saw them, didnt buy any ), track Friday nite not good ( one laned ), support fields very ordinary, delays poor ( 45 mins before the first race started !!! ), racing fantastic !!!! lack of up to date web info disappointing, weather awesome , prize money compared to other events poor. Did I enjoy myself - yes ;D

they missed the boat big time

on Friday night i sat beside some people from auckland and they were highly disappointed as well
