Hi everyone, just to clarify that, as from January 1st 2009, Rod ends and Alloy arms will be illegal in Ministocks. All people who have purchased my arms could you please contact me in regards to my up grade kit, which will bring these Arms back in line by Jan 1st.
SNZ, in there wisdom, have deemed these parts illegal as from January 1st, even though our car has used these arms for the last 4 years and others for much longer. Cost seems to have been there main gripe, will this mean they will put a stop to $6000 ministock engines, $1000 of stickers on cars, Racetech or Kirkey seats, $700 worth of gauges, etc, i think not. My arms are a one off item that will last the life of the car, not like some hand grenade $6000 engines.
The rule book states "spring mounts are free", SNZ are actually adding in a rule to combat my arms, as such. So as it stands Taniwha Motor Sports Adjustable Arms are LEGAL and always have been, until SNZ move the goal posts in January.
The updated Arms and kits will be available in the next few weeks.

Yup they trying to outlaw the Kuriger and Taniwha designed front ends that I must say were awesome. Because if you bent your car you could adjust it a bit and still have the same setup even if your car was bent.

Thanks Rusty, for your comments. Yes, you are correct, my arms are a progression of the Kuriger set up, which are a very effective but rather crude, from an engineering perspective, set up. When i built our 75p car, i liked the Kuriger set up, but not the welded tabs that bend to adjust and a few other things. Rods ends cured the tabs problem. Spherical bearings rectified the top mount issues and the alloy arms, completed the picture. Once our car was completed, people started asking me if i could build adjustable set ups for them and it snow-balled from there. My arms are quite labour intensive, and i CNC some of the components, hence the price. i don't think SNZ would ever ban adjustable set ups, because there so many variations out there, even a car with a plate and a few holes for the strut, is an adjustable car after all. This whole episode, has left a bitter taste with me, as like i said earlier, the don't hit the top engine builders for charging top dollar, do they?  ? Yours The Green Hornet  |

i hope that isnt true as it would be very sad if it were.
banning adjustable suspension is the biggest joke since the bs clamier engine rule that never happened - another snz bright idea.
lets see, ministocks have adjustable toe, adjustable ride height, adj caster, adj wings, adj tyre pressure, ..... you get my point.
snz hasnt banned anyone from using new tyres have they ? as that would be cost not towards the "intent of the class" too.
it wasnt that long ago that snz didnt allow chassis to have that extra down pipe in the window to stop cars bumpers from coming in and roll cages from collapesing - driver safety wasnt an intention of the class either, yet when someone like greenhornet who uses brain power and hard work to make the cars more user friendly not only for a racing purpose but as stated to help readjust the car after a crash, it gets squashed.
my old car had a very unique diff, we used the narrower diff which was a leaf spring version but then used all the coilover components on the narrow diff, as the rule book said spring mounts are free...... , as usual the lack of snz knowledge invovling the actual mechanics of a raceacar failed even detecting this let alone entering into any sort of debate at scrutineering.
intent of the class went out the window when snz failed to control the class from the start.
p.s remember in the rulebook when the camshaft spec was of a 1500 cam, and snz had to let everybody use them, what intent of the class was that?

As usual people go mouthing of without any knowledge of the facts.
Adjustable suspension has not been banned .
as a result of an enquiry from a competitor the use of aluminium components that are not standard from the donor car and the use of aftermarket rod ends/heim joints has been banned that is all.
As Mini Stocks are a regional class the Directors at their discretion have the ability to make , interpret or amend the rules of the class as they see fit for the benifit of the class.
Mini stocks are not subject to the 2 year rule making process that some classes are subject to ( stockcars ,Super Stocks etc)
The intent of the class is that it is a restricted learning class that is regulated so it does not die a natural death through to much inovation and expense as we have seen with so many other speedway classes.

ministocks are going to die naturally from starvation of parts. Are the technical commitee looking at other donar car options

so in another way car wrecker the only reason is cost factor thats y u baning those parts that a bit stuiped realy i think dont u think those 6thousand dollar engine would of been a good place to start not everone can afford those can they marty thats y we went to that goog adjustable arms to help us

Cant stop what people charge to do a ministock motor,end of the day they "should" be in theory no different to anyone elses engine,Unless there is some dishonset people around which im sure there is

My opinion on the Adjustable Suspension...and for that matter...all other parts of a Ministock are this
.........Firstly.. This class was setup as a "budget" class....period...
every step should be taken.... previously..now..and ....in the future to keep it that way.
.........Secondly... All matters of either Safety or Performance advantages.... should be fully monitered to stay within the rules ....remember..THIS IS AN INTERDUCTORY CLASS !!!!
.........Thirdly... Within reason...all other parts should be free.....within the rules ( Change Them )....
This surely means the scrutineers job is made easier ...and easier to police
Parts are becoming hard to obtain and therefor unless an " advantage of performance" is not gained....aftermarket parts should be able to be used........

very true, but nothing was done from the start to prevent this class from blowing out, thats why the class is in the place it is now unfortunatly. same thing happened to standard stocks or should i say super standard stocks.

as far as montering safety goes it has never been a top priorty, just look back through the years and current racing to see how many people have been hurt and what not due to the lack of safety enforced. being an interductry class to say superstocks or open wheelers to me should be even more safety orentated so people dont skimp on safety, and cars are made safer as per the rulebook so people dont have an option of skimping.
the point ive been trying to make is that all the hassles caused through it being a budget class and what not are a result of the governing body not doing anything to keep it a budget class, if the cars are too fast, slow em down. if people are getting hurt, find out why and make it safer. but control of the class should have been in place years ago.
wiseowl - good speedway in qld at the moment, they have got a new concept for super sedan racing called a 30 / 30, 2 drivers per car for a 60 lap feature each driver having to do 30 laps.

SNZ are and have been for some time addressing the isssues of mega Dollar engines and alternative donor vehicles /parts for the mini Stock class
Unfortunately we can not stop people paying more for engine rebuilds than they should be paying.
However should those rebuilds place an engine outside of the rules there is a better than fair chance that at some point in time that they will be found and dealt with accordingly.
As far as future donor cars and parts the problem of course is that there is very little in the way of RWD donor cars in the market place today.
The other problem is that what ever we do chose it must be comparative in performance potential as the existing vehicles.
Any constructive imput would be greatly appreciated
