Just bringing it to everyones attention that at Palmy's 15th Nov meeting, a number of cars were measured and found to have there front bumper to the front crankshaft pulley distance more/less than the 650mm distance as specified in the plans. It was then put in there log books to move there engines forward or back wards to comply. The head scrutineers interpretation of the rule book was that there is no plus or minus 25mm tolerance with this measurement and that the front bumper to front pulley measurement had to be EXACTLY 650mm. The main problem with this being, is that you cannot build anything to an exact measure, and you certainly cannot measure it with a tape measure. I'm a qualified Fitter/Turner and work with tight tolerances, but we always have some sort of tolerance to work to. I recommend to those cars affected (IE. noted in there log book) to contact SNZ or Marty Jones (PN) before chopping up your cars, they maybe okay as they are. However those cars that measure outside 625-675mm, you will have to rectify to comply.
The Green Hornet ;D
p.s. I am not a SNZ official or Scrutineer

Yes well done Hornet for bringing this matter to everyones attention. As you have suggested it would be better for anybody whose engine is within the 25mm tolerance either way not to cut and remount at this stage . I would hope to have a resolution to this problem by this time on Wednesday. Anybody who has taken the time to contact either myself or the SNZ office will get a responce in writing . By the way will you be in the drivers seat of the Rees stockcar this week or is there a vacancy for an old timer to have a pedal

Just got an email saying that the 25mm tolerance is allowed. Wasted pretty much 2 days moving the motor forward to find out the scruitineer didnt know what he was talking about? cheers palmy

the scrutineerers dont know how to measure. they said i had to move the bumper back 20mm, i measured it today and it only needs to be moved back 5mm, its pointless.

Sorry to hear that James98b, figure out how many hours it took you, times it by say $40 and send it to the scrutineer responsible I think, maybe next time there's a scrutineering blitz on, the parties involved may need to clarify with Marty Jones (ministock technical rep), and get there facts right. Otherwise people like poor old James98b, will spend unnecessary time, money and stress for nothing. The Green Hornet ;D P.s. Marty, you will have to ask your old mate Pete, yourself lol. You could get my Superstock going and have a pedal in that.

Tell me about it,the other week they told me my wheelbase was out 45mm,Then only to goto the other side and tell me it was fine,Both sides would have been fine if they had bothered to check to see the wheels were straight! the scrutineerers dont know how to measure. they said i had to move the bumper back 20mm, i measured it today and it only needs to be moved back 5mm, its pointless.

Dont be too hard on the scrutineers people they are only doing what they are told by their bosses (SNZ). A email to the CEO and a small fee for a few phone calls was what was needed for sanity to be restored. Hopefully this is the last of this sort of problem, YEAH RIGHT.

It is unfortunate that not all of our people get it rite all of the time. And obviousley for that SNZ does need to take the blame. However vehicle checkers at some tracks each week tend to focus on a particular issue while conducting the normal pre meetng safety check. I understand that on some of the vehicles checked the engines were up to 100mm out of position . The same as when the vehicles checkers at Hawkes Bay several weeks ago found on some vehicles that the wheelbase was up to 100mm short. To say that SNZ vehicle checkers dont dont know how to measure is in my opinion a rather imature and pointless statement to make. It is hard enough for some tracks to get volenteers to do some of these jobs . Giving those people grief for doing what is a thankless task will in no way benefit the sport

What happened to the 25mm engine mounting rules could be 25mm offset and 25mm forward or back.
