Track Information, Driving Tips
The track is longer than Dunedin or Christchurch. It has a new clay surface that we grade and water deep, which usually provides a consistent drivey surface. We expect this to be the case for most of the qualifying heats and the Repercharges and at least the first 2/3s of each of the finals races. The shape of the circuit is best described as tear drop shaped.
Back Straight If we start exiting from the sharp turn at the top of the tear drop we head down the back straight and enter turn 3. Unless you have a clear track and are able to use all of it then you will need to slow down to enter. The change from the straight to the corner is quite sharp and if you don’t slow down then you will drift out into the upper lane.
It is possible to pass around the outside of an inside car if you can enter fast, accurate and keep your momentum up. Equally you can also pass if you can gain position up the inside prior to both cars entering the turn.
Turn 3&4 Once you have entered this turn and set your car this turn just keeps going and sweeps right around in a long arc across the start finish line, past the pit gate and right into turn one which is at the top of the teardrop. It’s a bloody long way. You are able to drive it foot flat all the way, resulting in a huge speed entering turn1!
From the time that you set the car In turn 3/4 the track opens up so that there is enough space to run 3 cars wide however entering turn one on the outside 3 wide is a huge gamble. If that is where you are you need to ensure that the inside car is aware of you when you exit turn 2 as the inside cars tend to drift up and you will more than likely run out of room.
Turn 1&2 Breaking, entering turn one is in excess of 145kph, while you are still sweeping around a very long turn 4. This is very difficult to get right & getting that right is the key to this track.
Like Christchurch, cars tend to break a little early entering the tight turn and this will allow drivers who are good under breaks to take up positions both on the inside and outsides on the entry to turn one. This will then allow them to complete the move exiting turn 2 and entering turn 3.
So that’s the track as I see it, its fast and with 2 good breaking zones that will provide plenty of passing opportunities, I believe that good handling and accurate driving will be the key to getting a good result here.Best of luck to you all we are looking forward to hosting you, your families and crew at our track.
Best Regards, Shane

Is this a confirmed list, a list of those who expressed interest or just those you think will be there. Might be worth the trip down after all.

i know that donald gregory is planing on making the trip another 1nz for him haha He's one of my pic's, he's one of the best in the country under breaks and he showed that in chch in the repercharge when he drove from the back to the front to qualify. This track will suit those that can pass cars like Donald can.
