Speedway promoter Lewis Dawson is appointed as General Manager at Springs Promotions to take on the task of promoting speedway at Western Springs in Auckland. Dawson steps into the shoes of departing manager Dave Stewart who leaves Springs Promotions today.
Springs Promotions owner Bill Buckley is positive about the changing of the guard and is excited about the experience that Dawson brings to the role and the future of racing at the iconic Auckland speedway venue.
“After six years of speedway at Western Springs Dave is leaving and I’ve appointed Lewis to the challenging role. We still have six more years to run on our contract with Auckland City and I hope to see speedway racing continue at Western Springs for many more years after that.” Said the prominent Auckland businessman.
Stewart will be at speedway this coming Saturday to assist with the transition and introduce Dawson to staff and competitors.
“The move is a positive one for personal reasons for me” said Stewart, “Bill and I know that Lewis brings a wealth of experience and expertise to Springs Promotions. He’s been promoting Woodford Glen and has achieved so much for the guys down there, I wish him and Bill all the best for the future at Western Springs.”
Dawson comes to the Springs after a period promoting the Woodford Glen speedway track in Christchurch.
“I’ve been contemplating a move to Auckland for some time for family reasons and the offer of this position at Springs Promotions is a fantastic opportunity for me.” said Dawson. “I’m stepping into a great speedway operation and I’m looking forward to building on past successes for Bill and his team.”
“I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank the fans, competitors, sponsors and club management for their marvelous support during my role as club promoter at The Glen.”
The speedway season continues at Western Springs with Round 3 of the Western Springs Championship Series on this Saturday the 29th November and the North Island Sprint Car Championship on December 6.
