Having a few problems with my camera but will endeavour to get it sorted this week. Got a couple to show still. First is the town bend section which now has an irrigation system in place to get the grass going. Much more room for families and their picnics without getting cramped, plus crucially it ups capacity for a big event coming up in 2010 Secondly the spectator straight. More progress has been made since this photo to bank it similar to the townbend corner. Finally the track. Unfortuntely there was some big machinery at work on my last visit which I didn't was to mess with so will get a clearer picture later in the week.

so does this mean the lazy sunday afternoons at Kihikihi picnicking beside the car while watching speedway are over ?.
The thought of parking a mile away and carting all the goodies is decidedly unappealing .
I surely hope Kihikihi isn't turning itself into just another speedway .

You will defintely be able to bring the car in still Macgor. The photo can be a bit decieving but the end product will allow for that age old tradition to continue. Of course for big meetings such as the NZ Superstocks that won't be possible. However if you have a disability card arrangements can be made with the club. Regards Greg

That looks like great progress guys. I am really excited for the NZ Superstocks at KK next season!!! 9 degrees banking, thats awesome. One of the Gisborne guys might correct me, but if im right Gizzy has 12 degree banking on the straights, 20 degree Pit corner, 18 degree BP corner & indeed has made faster racing there. Looking forward to more progress shots

had a look at 2ks yesterday .while working 1 street away in the hiab. hard to beleive that the track is listed as bigger than huntly .no body there. so i walked around it .not as banked as i thought & the corners are larger a & wider which if you look closely at above photos has shortened the straights .if you stand on the bank just inside the main public entrance you can see that the straight on the crowd side is a little shorter than the pit straight .slightly egg shaped .my thoughts confirmed that this is going to be ideal big wheel & hp track . should slow the stockies a bit with more cars in the corners that should lead to more action from them .re parking inside hmm well very little lip up top to park on as enbankment seems to slope down to fence line pretty quikly .but all in looks very tidy & wouldnt mind doing some hot laps .thought about taking my 25 tonner 6 wheeler in for a skid ;D well done 2ks

Do you think they should have terraced the bank like Rotorua? Looks great the track does, I hope all the grass will be grown in time for the first meeting

A huge thanks to Craig for posting those photo's as my camera is still playing up.
The project is almost finished now just need to finish off the Spectator straight including an area before the banked bit for Spectator parking. The remaining grass will be sewn later this week, with the irrigation system then put in place. There is still some grading work to be done on the track itself which Grant D will get in and do, once thats done the banking should be a bit more obvious.
And yes you are correct Porry the corners have been reconfigured with the entry now being slightly wider. One of the big aims has been to promote more overtaking. A temporary poleline will be put in place so the club can analyse how to make further improvments before putting in the permanent poleline later on. Its hoped it will also help the contact sections, not that the Stockcars will need much help on the action front if we get Ivan, Lindsay and Peter Barry all visiting!!!
I must say a huge thanks to Steve and the team at McPherson Contractors because without their generous support 2K's could not have done this project in a million years.

I reckon they should put a row of seats like they did in Dunedin for the NZ Superstock title. I understand these were put in before the big meeting to increase capacity, and improve comfort for spectators. reasonably cost effective, couple of bits of four by two, and some pipe. Could make kihikihi a 10,000 seat complex judging by the size of the bank. if they put in four rows only a third of the way down from the top, it would still allow people to park up the top, sit on rugs below, and sit on seats if they hate sitting on a slope for 3 hours - which i do either way, huge kudos must go to the club for a fantastic and ballsy effort at the start of the season. Looks like the banking is going to make it a fast track, and the facilities allround look awesome.
