Absolutely brilliant!!! The darn big hole in the western bend was still there. Bring back the 44 gallon drums I say. And I reckon the black 22 was Charlie Berntsen. I'll be digging around in the cupboard for some old programmes to check on some other names & numbers. fantastic :-).

The saloon races were for the NZ Championship. About 1971. I was defending my title, when in heat 2 Barry Rickard (6) Reversed out from the wall bringing me to a sudden stop. As you can see in the clip, they didn't stop saloon races or even orange light, you just had to sort things out yourself. Ron Kendall went on to win the Title. Ron and I had a run off for 1st the year before. Stratford was my "Bogey" track. The previous trip to Straford resulted in me going end for end and totaly destroying the car,was 77H , new car and new no. 99 H

My dad was driving the number 14s Stockcar that year. i think he went on to become Taranaki Champ that year or the next not to sure.
But it certainly brought back some memories for him when he watched it.

I have a really old video tape at home of Stratford. I am not sure exactly how I came across it. It has some really good racing in it. The crowd is funny to look at, with all the men in suits & hats etc.... It also shows an old Zephyr catching fire ont he side of the road with a stockcar on the back. I must get it put onto DVD. Anyone know where I can get this done in Hawkes Bay.
