I think with all the banter about a new track in Auckland we may have just gone and jinxed ourselves. Manukau City Council have today announced new plans for Motorsport Park out by the Airport that may just have allowances for Speedway....... www.scoop.co.nz/stories/AK0811/S00242.htm

This part of the article intrigues me...
What motorsports codes register that low in noise.. electric golf cart racing perhaps?
I've been playing around with a sound meter lately, and just the sound of my voice is at around 65db, a carbonated drink assisted belch registered 94db (any louder and SNZ won't let me drink coke at meetings ;D), and an FAI wireless alarm (loudest buggers I've worked on) registered 107db.
Any noise created by running most codes of motorsport in that area is going to be drowned out by aircraft anyway.

I also believe as the project progresses the noise limits will increase.
The Council have been after Motorsport for years and I'm sure that they understand that Motorsport and noise go together
The early submissions of the new Baypark had a huge section on noise and changes had to be made.

Those noise levels will be at the boundary fence. same regs that we have to adhere to when running autocrosses at baypark.

hmmmm what does this mean for Speedway in Auckland? In my eyes it can only do one thing for speedway in Auckland, and that is set new standards that we should be looking forward to. It will be a shame to see Western Springs close, but unfortunately, its destiny really has been written on the wall over the last few seasons thanks to a minority group However, this Manukau Motorsport Park, sounds like it will offer a place for Springs fans and competitors to converge and have a better place to race in terms of noise restrictions etc etc. Maybe if they are still interested in racing contact classes and other SNZ classes that currently race @ WP, maybe that will buck WP into gear and really get them competing for fans and competitors, as Im sad to say, as an imported resident to New Zealands biggest city from the real oval by the ocean Oceanview, WP has left me wanting for far too long, so apart from Teams Nationals time, I leave NZ'z largest city and get my speedway fix from other tracks like Rotorua, Huntly, Kihikihi etc. So maybe this is the news that finally starts significant changes for fans and competitors in Auckland and from abroad. As for Dave Stewarts comments about fans not travelling an hour to see speedway, hes a bit out of touch, as Im not the only regular out of town traveller. Bring this on I say, can only mean positive things at this stage with the closure of the Springs on the cards in the near future and lack lustre years of recent at W.P. Richard Baddiley

Manukau City Council saw the money that could be generated by the NZ Rally Superstages they used to run and want to tap back in to the tourist dollar. The kart club from Mt Welly are a few steps down the path I believe as they have been liasing with MCC for a few years now. Track plans are moving forward with them already.
As pointed out the dB is at the boundary or might even be at the nearest residence boundary. I'm not 100% as there are different criteria. I know ambient can be around 60 to 65dB.
I hope someone from speedway has been in contact with MCC on an ongoing basis as this is a long term option for the whole of Auckland.
