In my opinion what started out as grass roots class and a way to introduce families to the sport of speedway has now changed into one of the most competitive and dynamic classes in the sport.
I think it’s relatively clear that as teams have become more competitive in this sport, rules and regulations have not kept up. I think it’s fair to say that the power of a few has gone to their head and that what started out for many as a $3,000 investment has now turned into a $10,000 investment. The face of Ministocks is no longer, the DIY spray can paint job and second hand tire class that it once was, instead now, it’s a class of Kirky Light-Weight seats, Hartley Race Engines and Odyssey Batteries.
Keen to hear what you think… Mackie Boy

"it’s a class of Kirky Light-Weight seats"
so its a bad idea to spend money on a very safe wrap around seat no keep the driver well protected?
if thats the opinion of some then the class is doomed if safety isnt the biggest priority.

I think you missed the point, it being that I believe we do need to embrace each of these improvements. Things like taniwha suspensions and the above examples of “Kirky Light-Weight seats, Hartley Race Engines and Odyssey Batteries” need to be embraced not pushed away as they currently are being by Speedway New Zealand.
Not only is it impossible to turn back the tide of development, but efforts to do so can make us worse off. You only have to go to PN to see that the officials attempts there to constantly pick on the top cars are only driving these competitors out of the sport, and I personally don’t think this is a good thing - but hey maybe im wrong?

With any motorsport u are always looking for the edge, so these things are constantly going to be coming along with ministocks. This must be seen as a positive as the class is only going to be moving forward! "diy spraycan paint jobs" Surely having nicer looking cars is a positive also for moving the sport forward.

i used to have a nuts seat and i was fine in all 4 of my rolls. i can see the point your making by saying $3000 investments like i started out with a $3500 ministock and now its still in the competition right by these $7000 cars but now these light weight, fast motors $10000 ministocks are just too much on the big tracks but on tight tracks like rotorua make for good competition if you have the skill to.
