Wow, what a weekend of surprises.
Surprised the plane broke down on the tarmac in CHCH.
Surprised a mate had a car in Rangiora that needed taking back.
Surprised I talked Air NZ into paying for the Taxi to Rangiora to pick up the car.
Surprised the Taxi driver didn;t no his way around Rangiora - only took 30 mins to get there from the airport - but we finally found High street, which funnily enough is the main street.
And the ultimate Surprise - finally arriving to the Terris Engineering workshop to find the car not in the garage. Had been given the hurry up by Olivers to get out there "Your running out of time Hads, there was more damage than we thought, might be touch and to get there by tomorrow"
Towbar said "Mate, You better get that car in here, just about finished the trailer, we've got alot of work to do" Couldn't see it in the lane "Its up by the house".
Went up to see the old girl in the sun - thought, man thats clean, wonder why they painted the siderails before we fix it?
Walk closer, no cracks, fresh welds, jaw begins to fall.
Walk around the back, the rear bumper is straight, finally notice the wheels all painted silver (whats wrong with black
Ok I admit it silver looks bettter).
The wing was a good wind up, had painted one side over the covering, so it will be back in the yellow 48gm colours ... one day when the Gareth gets of his backside. Just finish one of those buses first!
Can;t beleive the "Bad Had" not sure where that was dreamed up by towbar, but i can tell you i got sick of seeing it. Little did I know it was allready over the internet...shocker.
Anway, completly inexpected. Not often I'm lost for words (witness the posts, and length of drivel I normally come up with) but I had nothing this time. What a shock, still can;t beleive a couple of blokes went out of there way to help out a bum from wellington who can;t even drive the thing really.
A huge thank you to Mark "Bucky" Buckman - We'll definitly get you out there for a spin one of these meetings. Lept in a week and a half ago apparently and got the big porta power out and got to heating and huffing to try and get things straight. Think you might have done a pretty decent job, nothing Fell off!
And of course Towbar Dave for having the facilities and gear, and getting BUcky all sorted out. NOt to mention all the other support - that doesn;t count trying to get me chopped on Friday night before racing everytime i get down there though!
Big thanks to Worm as well for the help the last couple of times - glad you enjoyed the drive after the meeting, will never happen again though since it went faster than its ever gone ya throttle jockey! Get that car painted, and we'll see you on the track at the next meeting.
And of course thanks to Big BRendan for posting the photos mate - you;ll keep!
Still can't beleive it - not sure what i'm gonnna do to pay these guys back.
Racing was good in the weekend, thanks a heap to the fast chch cars that came over
Colin Cameron 15c (well done on 3rd mate)
Noel Edgeworth 77c
Graeme Read 21c (1 c on the day)
Gavin Vallence 71c
Keiran Hewitt 16n
thanks for travelling down and making it a great day - your support makes it a great title to race for, and helps install some club pride in the class. All the best for your racing in the future, hope you had a good time and we can get over to your tracks for a visit.
cheers
Obby (just a wee bit emotional over the whole thing)
