Not sure how many tracks we've been on so far this season, quite a few in the North and South ...
But EASTLAND GROUP RACEWAY, Gisborne,
has taken the No. 1 spot so far for my ON and OFF TRACK experience.

We've pulled out of the DHL Saloon Series,
and the down side is the awesome tracks and folk we may miss out on catching up with.
The decision to head for Gizzy is an easy one for me (not quite as easy for my wife!).
The drive is varied but impressive, entering Ohope, GOING DOWN ....

Reminds me of the banking at Gizzy turns 1 & 2 !!! ....

approaching Opotiki ...

Opotiki beach looking West ...

... towards the East (Te Kaha) and GISBORNE ...

A must stop cafe in Opotiki before the gorge ...

An ol' racer got married in this ol' church in Opotiki in June 1974 ...

50kms of this between Opotiki and Gisborne ...

Half way from Opotiki to Gisborne ...

Looks like a big crowd heading for the speedway tonight
Reminds me of the saloon racing at Baypark

I'm not the first to arrive in GIzzy ...

With each race meeting a new experience, some not so good, some excellent.

This was excellent, my first steer of a stockcar, 45R in the 'grand parade' ...
THANKS NICK VALLANCE!!!!!

My drive to Gisborne (300kms from Tga) had me wondering
what differences might be evident with the change in promotion ...
Well, from ol' saloon racers point of view, if you thought Gisborne had it pretty much sussed in the past, get back there and you'll find out why so many make the journey.
From Hawkes Bay or the Bay of Plenty, it's not an easy drive,
but it certainly is worth it.
If my moments of glory in Nick's stockcar wasn't enough,
I even managed to snatch the flag for a few moments ...

They're a strange lot in Gizzy, awesome folk, but definetly strange!
They take the risk of 'tidal waves' from global warming way too seriously!
Check out their boat mooring!

Can't leave town without a McD's breakfast ...

An absolutely great time was had in Gizzy.
The racing I watched just blew me away - these racers actually hit, tag, race, give it 110%.
My own race experience with the gizzy and Meeanee folk was close, fast and fun - thanks!
But it's always great to get home ...
