Watching the monster truck V drink ad on TV again last night , being a speedway/motorsport /V8 nut it always brings a big smile to my face cause its in your face excitement. ;D
After reading Barry B's article in NZDTR & threads on Macgors my question is how come speedway doesn't do TV ad's advertising our summer sport ?
Maybe SNZ & SPANZ could combine to promote it through TV After all isn't our sport about in your face excitement ?
Cheers. ;D

I've seen PN speedway advertising sprintcars 5 times in the last 4 weeks (which is pretty good frequency).
UNtill theres been some solid thinking and reserach around the messeges you want to sell, the audiance you want to attract, and therefore target with your advertising, the cost benefit of TV vs radio for the time of year (summer, so less people in front of the box) your really throwing money at a black hole.
I'd imagine any SNZ money would be limited, and have to get the biggest bang for its buck. Unless theres been some critical thinking and research too back it up I'd be afraid it would be wasted.
NO doubt with the changes that have been happening in the last 12 months there will be some thinking around any opportunities that exsist, and with any luck a process will be followed that will produce the right outcomes.

The 2nd season that Springs Promotions had the place they had heaps of ads on TV with the parents talking to the shrink Feel It Breath It etc, it was pretty kool, but it worked, crowds were up and have continued to rise ever since.
A risky investment? Yes - More Risky than Newspaper? No - how many papers are going to be sold?
Come on People if TV advertising didnt work then we would have no adds but a Newspaper that was 1000 pages thick with colour adverts?

Yeah I was kinda thinking about the sport has a whole rather than indivdual tracks.
But guess with individual clubs & promotors they have to do their own thing.

If there was no tv Aaron, Radio would be constant commercials and no programming. I would say radio and newspaper are the traditional and most effective forms of speedway advertising. I can remember a time when almost every speedway track was sponsored by thier local radio station, ie Palmt - 2xs, Wanganui Star FM etc etc. Im bound to say it because I work in the industry, but you cant go past good effective radio advertising, for bang for buck, for target audience reached and results.

When I do the More FM Horowhenua speedway show on a Friday morning and we give away double passes to speedway we cant stop the people calling to answer the question to win. When the local paper gives away passes they are lucky to get 6 entries.

Radio in Auckland is a waste of time except perhaps Radio Sport.
If you were truely going to promote speedway in Auckland then TV is the answer...... 3 or 1 News with meeting preview and adds running between 7.00 and 10.00pm.
Radio yeah but then perhaps u need a jingle?

Prime time between 7pm and 10pm as well, so cost will depend on the ratings of the show you want to put it in. Feature movie will be another 10 k for [glow=red,2,300]one[/glow] 30second add so some big dough required to hit those time slots.

Radio in Auckland is a waste of time except perhaps Radio Sport. I don't believe that for a second, Aaron. Think about how many cars are sitting on the motorways going nowhere at any given time. I'd bet that a good number of those cars are going to be tuned into a mainstream station - ie Hauraki, The Rock, Classic Hits, ZM. Sometimes talkback radio such as Radio Live or Adtalk 1ZB. Personally, I've not got the attention span to stuff around with changing CDs while wondering what the other idiot on the road is going to do next. Midnight Oil's "10, 9, 8....2,1" has been in the player for days, one button push away from solving the problem of Snoopy's Christmas. Captive audience - especially in Auckland traffic, you can't get more captive than that! But.... For radio I would suggest that rather than jingle based advertising, promotion through a spot talking about a particular event, via phone to a promoter, rather than something like the antique "Waikaraka Park Roaring In The Dark" jingle, is more likely to grab people's attention. In recent weeks I've heard a radio live ad for the Superstock nationals, (which took three listens before I clicked) an advert for saloon Nationals on Waikato radio (which only caught my attention when I heard the words "Huntly Placemaker's Speedway") and a promoter talking via phone to a DJ about something on at Western Springs (which I noticed immediately, sat back and actually listenned to). When people hear the same drone on the radio time and time again, sure they filter it out. If someone in the sport takes the time to talk about it on the air, to the DJ in a prearranged promotional spot I bet people are more receptive to it.
