Brilliant clip.
Of course, New Zealand speedway has its biggest ever promotional opportunity coming up this February with Jeremy and the Hamster here for their shows at almost the same time as the teams champ in Palmy. Those guys love crazy stuff around cars, and nothing is crazier than super stock teams racing - the potential publicity from getting them to attend and be part of the show is enormous. I know this idea has already been discussed so lets hope something comes of it.

Would be good to get them into a stockcar teams race like what happened in Huntly for tiger and company...

Indeed - it would be a real coup for the oval track to get top billing on Top Gear - let's hope that the right people are on the job!

Highly unlikely I'm afraid. Mr Clarkson has a big downer on oval motorsport. He reckons it's not racing if you just go around and around I'd love to see him taken out big style by Pete Rees

Another TV clip, this time from 1982 and a TV show called the 'Late, Late Breakfast show' which went out on a Saturday night, prime time and features Frankie Wainman again and the dulcet tones of Murray Walker. uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Wg0ZCuWkYuY

I only went to Odsall once when it was paved, much better when it was shale in my opinion. Another great track lost.

I only went to Odsall once when it was paved, much better when it was shale in my opinion. Another great track lost. Nooooo. Odsal was far better on tar. A tight oval built around the Bradford Bulls Rugby League pitch with the dreaded Bradford 'beams' to stop cars tearing up the pitch. They changed the track and made it shale for the 1985 Speedway (bikes) World Final. In doing so, they chopped off the rugby pitch corners widening the bends. The shale was layed on top of the tar surface and cut up badly. It lost something special when those changes were made. This is why is brilliant: uk.youtube.com/watch?v=yCJysH0TFH4
