You can see the smoke from Newmarket and most of the motorway.
All trains between Britomart and Otahuhu on both railway lines are stopped and a chunk of Great South Rd is closed.

the old man said he had heard on his scanner that the fire had gone to a 6th alarm, and there was a unit on its way from Hamilton.
The smoke plume was HUGE, and I am guessing all they can do is try and stop it spreading.

Far out.... Nice shot there Dave.
As TQCrew said, you could see the smoke from most of the motorway - will vouch for that as we saw the smoke and wondered what it was on our way out west. Eds took some pics while I was driving, so I'm sure he'll post a couple up in due course.

sorry they didnt call it earlyer for u dave mate lmao They should have called it off later, blue sky was coming out when i left palmy. but hey thats motorsport, Will be back at palmy on 29 dec so put on some fine weather. Anyway it was great to see some different country on the way back home. Boy was I happy to see Ratahi as only had 4 litres petrol left in tank. Should have topped up in Wanganui Any way thanks to Rotaholic, 51p racing, for your weather updates on way down. When I got to Palmy cellphone went flat and died so found out meeting was off at track. Pity they didnt run it at 2pm today as would of stayed down there. It going to be an over night drive for driver and crew that need to be back at work in morning for teams from Auclkand/Tauranga areas.

View from Mt Wellington View back from Market Road, that cloud seems to be even bigger than it was at Mt Wellington. Thats two in three weeks for me... I got stuck on the motorway with a front row seat of the recent Mitre 10 fire too...

Its hard to tell what the most out of place item in that shot is... the big cloud in the background, or the indicators on a Merc actually being used.... ;D
