The nz superstocks are on at the glen, the pinnacle for a lot of us in speedway, millions of dollars worth of machinery ,cars transporters etc. If you're not in christchurch there's no way to watch it, but wait tune in to smashfest, not quite what i was after! No wonder the profile of speedway as a sport isn't as high as one day cricket with a hundred or so people watching!!

it amazes me how wp can condone this with all the trouble its brought them.yes derbies are a good way to enter speedway as thats how myself and alot of well known drivers started.( racing in the outlaw teams events around the country ) but these guy have no respect for snz rules etc and expect to run on snz tracks.( how the hell can cable ties be a safe window and stop projectiles entering the cockpit ?) wp if you guys are happy to keep staging this event with total disregard to rules and regulations put in place so be it. it will be the end of stockcar racing in auckland after reading what happened last time. just my 2 cents worth

Having done Smashfest 07myself. And being the partner of the woman in the doco I bought a Streetstock to race. I have now built myself a new Streety and am having a ball. My old car went to a friend who is also a Smashfest convert,so there's another one to join the ranks. Alot of of the knockers put people off getting involved with the sport. If there were more positive comments and encouragement there would be more people like me saying , ( well this is fun and I'll look at buying a speedway car.) Some of you forget that the reason why we race is to have fun and a beer afterwards. So stop the moaning and get back to main reason of doing it. Entertaining the spectators.
Owner and driver of Streety 23A Jon.

Where in the Snz rule book does it that mesh has to be fitted to the windscreens to derby cars. This is Asscc looking after the drivers.

For the knockers ,what other track or class has achieved a doco being made about it, let a lone a repeat screening. More for the knockers , recently at WP a TV crew did another program with young Lady's driving stock cars, more national TV exposure when it airs.
Theres no business like show business, theres no advertising like free advertising, and it doesnt get much better than free "Prime" time TV slots.
WP is doing the business, and yes I am unashamedly on eyed

And if it means the end of SNZ sanctioned stockcar, superstock, ministock, modified, streetstock, saloon and supersaloon racing in Auckland will it still be worth it?

Disregarding the Smashfest induced dramas between the ASSCC and SNZ,there are still no guarantees that racing will continue to be run and controlled at WP under the banner it currently is,post this season.

What does that mean?
Is this rubbish based on fact or some pie in the sky opinion?
The original thread is about Smashfest, celebrate the success and positives it has acheived from one man's vision to a nationally recognised event thanks to the airing on telly. If you want to start the usual WP doom and gloom, start a new thread on that very topic so it can be rightfully locked (probably by Drever).

Yes the WP doom and gloom continues..... I think Smashfest is a great promotion and was great that it made it on TV more than once.....
As a former Smashfest competitor & two time broadcaster I had a great time. The FBT got air litterally plus Water plus sent the other member of FBT in the final of the first one. He was dissapointing to say the least.....
Wandering Minds Wonder if FBT are back for 3 in a ROW

What does that mean? Is this rubbish based on fact or some pie in the sky opinion? My opinion in so far as the future of racing at WP is based on fact and hopefully these facts when presented, will deliver the change thats needed to ensure the continuation of WP as a speedway venue. As far as Smashfest is concerned its not my cup of tea,but it certainly appeals to plenty out there and judging by a couple of posts in this thread its delivered a few cars to the speedway track which has to be a bonus, more so when you throw in the TV coverage which im sure will have a major payoff for this year.

Smashfest was a good idea.
I think what everyone's asking, is if either SNZ are going to get in behind it this time around, if WP are going to adhere to their promises made at the last MOA, or if this is going to result in the same food fight that arose after the last one, and if neither party is going to see eye to eye on the matter, will WP will end up going black as a result of irreconcillable differences between club and SNZ, and what effects this will have on the current membership, classes and attendences if they do.
I don't think many people are fundamentally opposed to the idea of Smashfest at all, but the potential fallout if once more, WP gets offside with SNZ over the event once again.
