very questionable on the derby driver. but on a positive note my partner noticed in the final stockcar race that the flag man held out a black board with the words HIT in capitals.great call by who ever made it as made for some entertaining and exciting stock car racing.

... and, what's more, did you notice that you don't have to wreck cars or hospitalise drivers to lay on the entertainment? Well done to all of the drivers, and to the track prep squad who prepared a track which, while not billiard-table smooth, didn't destroy the cars - racing is so much better when it's driver against driver, not driver against track! And there was no dust, either!

Wow!! that crowd was massive and to hear them chanting and cheering after our feature was electric ;D We all need to capitalize on crowds like this and showcase our classes, this is what sponsors like to see their brand out there for the public eye Personally I feel we should have run 1 heat and a feature, not 2 heats and a shortened feature finishing on a caution, this would have still allowed for time with Demo Derby and the crowd want to see wheel to wheel V8 action at its best I am sure. All in all the big crowd lifted everyones spirits and bugga me we had to line up in the bar for drinks lol ;D

What a random crowd. Even though the derbies and fireworks normally bring out the non speedway crowds, or 4 times a year crowd, I wasn't prepared for last nights crowd.
Glad I left before the derby so I didn't have to fight the crowds. Was on call for work so couldn't be trapped in the car park for an hour.
Geese I would love a speedway only meet to grab a crowd like that. It's a stadium that can hold numerous people and it would be so good to see it almost full with 2 or 3 titles on the line. Sumthing like an 8 teams stockcars teams event plus, super saloon teams and Auck vs BP sprintcar chalenge? Even a superstock invitation. I don't know, just loved the atmosphere and the crowd reaction to the racing. Thats the potential that stadium has.
I can see Willies prob. A meeting like that would cost a few bob to put on and there is no gurantee, with BP crowd that they would turn up for a speedway only meet. BP don't have a Palmy teams champs, a stockcar teams champ, a super saloon hoopla a world 240's an international sprintcar or midget meet, or a world of stocks. Something outside the square req'd perhaps? However he can throw a couple of grand at a derby and get a crowd that would go close to being close to the crowd for all the meetings played out so far.
Any suggestions of a meet that may fill the place? Also keep in mind the visual and radio advertising was amped up for this meet. Would this help with speedway meets?
Also mentioned on an earlier posts, keep the reverse grid feature races as well.

Kia ora, From what I can see this event is as good as a 240's meeting etc. I am sure that if the event is held annually then people will commit to it as they have to other annual family outings. The Mount is a holidaymakers Paradise so this time of year obviously works too. Coincidentally I had lunch with the extended whanau today and they mentioned this event as they had seen it on tv and they were wishing they had gone to it! We live in Rotorua and a bit of advertising over here would not have gone amiss. If the event gets big enough then perhaps it could be turned into a two night "Carnival of Speedway event". The problem of getting people to the venue for this event appears to have been solved. One of the keys is making as much money while people are there and encouraging them to come back next year - something events such as the 240's and Teams champs have accomplished very well. I might have missed it but some threads on Macgors regarding the event would also have helped. Green flags and green lights and congratulations to the BP team.

Who would have thought that! Forgive my ignorance but what is the derby they ran at BP and why is it not speedway?

Congratulations to Baypark promotions. What a crowd...... The winners here are the sponsors who week in and week out support the drivers and what a way to pay them back in front of a long overdue big showing by the Tauranga public for the meeting gone.
10/10 for promotion and hopefully all classes were putting on a good showing and maybe some might come back next week.....
