Why are they scrutineering for the NZ at Wellington this weekend regan??? thats news to me never heard of that before scrutineering for a NZ Championship a week before hand lol

I agree that it wasnt rigidly policed and should have been but it is still there in the rule book. What we have is not a rule change mid season but rather that ugly word Interpretation,that is what has changed the interpretation of the rule and that does not sit comfortably mid season really.At least competitors know now and will have to do something about it in 2 weeks they were warned at Meeanee that they ALL will have to comply at Wellington. I personally can not see how grooves can be called tread, unless it is part of the footprint, surly if you are going to interpret it to the letter tread is only tread while it is touching the ground. Pardon my ignorance (I'm technically illiterate ), but what would be the purpose of having a groove on the side of the tyre if it didn't come into contact with the track to improve traction? And if the grooves in the side of the tyre came into contact with the track, surely they'd constitute tread wouldn't they?

Remembering that these are road tyres we're talking about, so I would imagine that grooves on the side of the tyre are to dispose of water out the side of the contact patch in order to prevent aquaplaning. So they mightn't ever come in contact with the track, and I would imagine the groove on many tyres may get wider as they get shallower and taper off around the sidewall, if that makes sense? I dont think anyone in the Stockcar class has intended to cheat by their selection of road tyre, and the benefit gained would be microscopic if any at all. This will only mean more hassle for both drivers and officials if certain models of standard road tyre are legal, and others aren't.
