Rumour has it that both events will attract around the 20car mark. (GP poss a little more, Gizzy a little less).
Can somebody in the know declare their tracks format. With that many cars I would suggest they wouldn't have to split the cars and can run on a three race format that could be front, middle and rear format or marble, reverse and top points off the front for a one race final.
As a spectator I would want to see all cars on the track at once and not wait till the last race of the night to see 20 cars on track. Keep in mind that you may not even get 20 cars to the final if there are bingles or mechanical failure.
Any thorts or knowledge? The meetings are 2 and 3 weeks away respectively

go to www.speedyway.co.nz go to champs, download the 2 entry forms and read them for yourself. the GP At Baypark is to be run under the USA Sprintcar type format, while the NI's at Gisborne is to be run by...... two heats marble and reverse marble draw per group over a max of 20 laps, in the case of equal points a 4 lap run off will be held to determine final grid positions for the 20 car final 2 heats to find top points scorer. top scorer to start off the front (drivers choice) for a 20 lap final. the competitor with the most accumulated points after the third heat will be the NI champ.

Thanx strx7, didn't think of that. Still got new year brain fade.
I really hope there might be a change of plan at BP. That American format is designed for big numbers and robs the spectators of decent action when there is 20 cars on hand.
That would mean there will be races of 6-10 cars on the track until the final which will have 20 (If there is that many left). May as well do time trials at the start and that be the starting order for the final at the end of the night. That would save the guys fuel, tyres and suspesion damage.

For that format to work you need close to 50 cars.
IMHO for less than 40 cars it would be better to have a marble draw, reverse and top points off the front for the final. If they need two groups so be it.
Rumours from down South suggest some drivers aren't attending the GP.
I hope you are right and that number is left in the dust.

there was 20 odd cars for the south pacifics meeting which in a greater sense is a 'nothing' meeting.
hell there was 11 supers this past saturday, the same weekend the champs were on....
IMHO a Grand Prix should always have 1 big race at the end of the night to decide the meeting, after all thats what a Grand Prix is. Dont see the F1 boys having 3 races at 1 track to gain points............
Give the green to the fastest 24 supers on the night for 25 or 30 laps and let the right foot do the talking..........

F1 and supers are comparable - Not. They also decide their title after14 races at 14 tracks. That doesn't happen at speedway.
I agree the final shoud be one big race at the end of the night. Just not overly happy about spending 20 bucks to watch 6-10 cars run around when there are 20 soething in the pits.
Any way. I have said my point and I doubt things will change. Looking forward to three heats of close to 20 cars in Gizzy.
And before you say don't spend the 20 bucks, It's a class I love and a class you don't see big numbers of in one place often and I think another format would showcase the class to the spectators better.
