On the thread re "how to wreck a NZ Title" a posting was made about the Top 10 Holiday Park not wanting to have speedway drivers staying there. This is one of the places we have stayed at over the years with no problems. After travelling round NZ for many years to these titles, there was always a certain element who wanted to ruin it for everyone. From my (own) observations I feel that a lot of these are the younger newer drivers who seem to think it their right to make as much noise as they please and don't give a hoot about anyone else. If the drivers tell the camp owners they are going to come in late they are usually placed in an area that will not disturb the other patrons too much. Not everyone is a speedway fan and I feel that the Streetstock class has in fact lost a lot of their own pride. After watching them at Blenheim both nights, one of the things that really stood out was the fact that only a few of the more experienced drivers took the time between races to wash at least the number on their car and try to tidy the car up. A lot of the cars turned up on the second night still having the mud covering the car from the previous night. Surely this should have been pointed out at the scrutineering and the driver told to take the car away and clean it as have happened at a lot of the other tracks. All the above reflects back on the driver and crew who do not appear to be proud to attend a NZ title and represent their home track to the best of their ability.

What a shame to read this post, i thought the days of speedway drivers being banned from motels/hotels/camping grounds had gone. I know the steeties get a bad rap for having "untidy cars/piles of s#@t" but i actually thought the std of cars was starting to lift as there is some very well presented cars out there. Just to read some didnt even clean thier numbers shows that these guys dont have any pride in thier cars/class/themselves.
By the way i hope the Top 10 parks will let us stay as we are members and use these campgrounds all the time.
PRIDE PEOPLE, PRIDE.

I have found top ten camps great. However when going to find accom in the upper hutt I found it difficult. When I asked, they said that's speedway weekend, and I said yes thats what I am staying for and half said they weren't interested.
That's not getting at the top ten as I believe they were full of speedwaynites, I was late getting in.
Some teams make mistakes that others live with, If in Dannevirke don't suggest you are a poverty bay badminton player. ( not my fault)!

Devilracer 666, the times of speedway teams been not excepted at some motels is still well and truely in force. Again the minority spoil it for the majority.
Speedway in some sense is still considerd to be the rule of the knuckle draggers. Whilst I don't think it's fair, certain teams ruin it for others.
Don't get me wrong. It's not just the budget teams or classes that ruin it, there has been some big dollar teams and transporters that have been told they are no longer welcome and neither are other speedway folk.
What does that say as to why speedway acn't m ove forward.

When asking about trailer parking just tell them you have a boat not a racecar...probem solved!
Oh yeah and when you get there, don't be a d*ck and ruin it for the next people!

What a good start - be a d*ick and ruin it for the boaties by lieing about what you're towing. Would probably ruin it for speedway as well as any remaining trust would disappear.

Hi all, i don't post comments often but feel this needs to be said.
After speaking to the owner/manager of the top ten blenheim holiday park yesterday after hearing that they had problems on the weekend it seems noise and reving of engines and repairs on cars late and total disrespect for other users of the park+ abuse towards top ten staff pushed them over the edge with the police finally becoming involved. after a long discussion with the owners of the park(who for a start where baning all speedway vehicles for good) they now will still provide a service to the travelling speedway competitors and fans they realise that not all are tarred with the same brush.
i myself have supplyed them with my contact details so if they have speedway vehicles there in the future they have a point of contact for local workshop and car washing facilitys.
seems a few can wreck things for everyone very easily. a little common sense when travelling away is all thats needed.

After all, when travelling you (and your crew) are representing your club, and supposed to act accordingly. Therefore any discrepencies should be acted on. As already said, a few can damage for the many!

Well done Tim, good to see someone put thier neck out for the rest of us. Im still very annoyed to hear of the disrespect from those drivers, yes i too think the home tracks of those drivers should be informed and some sort of punishment handed down. These guys need to know its not ok to ruin it for the rest of us.

Well done Tim Thank-you ;D
Street Stocks I believe are where the champions of tomorrow start yes? are these the guys that want to race Super Saloons, Super Stocks and Sprint Cars in the future? if so it would be a good idea to keep you nose's clean and act in a professional manner, remember motels and camps do offer discounts to groups, remember YOUR new corporate sponsor may just be sitting in the stands or staying in the motel next door, this could be the sponsor that is watching you and might like to help you one day. Great presentation of a race car does not cost much ;D

Like most I have read the SNZ rule book, but only remember some of it, Is there a section on code of conduct? If not, should there be? out lining whats expected from drivers and crew. If there are no rules how do you stay within them or discipline someone for breaking the unwritten rule. I have come across Motels and Hotels that don't want anything to do with Speedway, after asking a few questions you get the same answers, noise, late nite's, drinking and as we found in Dunedin (Mosgiel) a couple of years back stockcar's had changed there oil and left most of it on the carpark asphalt.
Are we allowing a few to ruin it for the rest, I think at this time we are closing the gate after the horse bolted, that we need to re-educate our drivers and the local motels that we are now a professional sport and those who go out side the rules will be sanctioned by our clubs and/or SNZ. *Professional* "person who is rewarded for there effort" Just my 10 cents worth.

::)Interesting info here.... Well I was at Blenheim Top 10, we were booked in for 3 nights. first and 2nd nights were fine. How ever on the third day, when I sitting in my cabin having breakfast with hubby and two yr and four yr old, Camp Manager steps into cabin with a excuse me, knocking or nothing, throws down a notice which he handed out to all campers regardless of who.... after reading notice which state... NO ENTRY INTO CAMP AFTER 11PM including cars and all! I went outside to manager who is still handing out his notes. And said you are locking us out, I have two small children and two older ones, he turn in a aggressive manner , in my face and said he didn't care. I told him you cant do that, ( this is a camping ground) speedway will not finish tonight till probably Midnight. He still didn't care, Park all your cars, bus's , race cars outside. He didn't like the bump bump as they came in, He said. This man has just taken over...He is rude, to say the least. I asked for money back for tonight then. He at first said no. Then agreed after I mention the consumers.. Others he would not refund. Some he did. I have stayed at top 10 , Nelson, chch, they were awesome!!!!!! This man proceeded to say all speedway unwelcome. Speedway people who were there, were all good. He is a drop kick. EX car salesman, thinks he knows all when he knows nothing. Ps at least 10 groups booked out. And went across the road to Groves, they are awesome...(thanks for that) One more thing, This Manager is on a power trip. So Doubt he will last long, unless his attitude changes

Thanks onthewagon, I also was given the same treatment as you and your family. I was also told (in not a nice way, but should have thanked him) that he was sick of all you young ones, I'm in my fourties. Tried not to smile, thought it would have made him worst. We were there supporting and also have young children. We were given comment cards and filled them in we did as Alot of other people did aswell. Along with quite a few other families and singles alike we have already written our concerns and comments on the lack of people skills/organization this man had. If he was??? a car salesman then I can see why he is no longer one.

As was stated by Tim he was "off" anyone speedway related, this has now been rectified. Not that its any excuse to be rude to anyone but once burnt and all that.
