Good comments barry and i agree things will be learnt from this as you do every meet you run let alone a NZ title.I guess on the photo note you either see it in the lite it is intended or you read into and portray to others what you want to see.No mention of various others long night antics on a negitive note ie new 1NZ superstock doing burnouts in his bus early hours after more then likely having had a few?Or am i reading into this more than what it is ,a man and crew enjoying thier victory. Will watch with interest to see if other tracks get scrutineered so hard as Cromwell did.My opinion only thanks.

I don't believe Cromwell is being scrutinized any more, or any less, than any other track that hosts a major event. But people involved with, or having a past involvement with, any track, always tend to take such comments a little more personally............

First up well done Cromwell on a good weekend, the track was a little harsh which was a surprise considering all the good comments I have had about the preparation, I'd say you aloud for the heat and amount of racing from the saloons the best you could but it didn't quite work out for the Friday, was still fast though on the Friday, much better on the Sat As for Percy and Barry's comments on the certain Paton's I agree, it was a little disappointing they weren't controlled better. But so people are clear, it was a very youthful amount of drinkers (legal age even pending) that was very clearly ignorant of the people around them and the racing itself. The 6foot tall bullet proof hero syndrome seems to be rampant no matter where you go these days, local or not. Now at speedway we wavier any damage to our selfs as we walk in the gate, but to be stupid enough to be leaning on the fence, jumping on it etc during racing is not clever, but not having security or officials or even say anything is worse, might pay to look at this in the future, yes I realize you all had alot of responsibilities but crowd control is one of them. Not sure who the commentator was but I clearly heard him say to the crowd if they wish to leave please wait for any race to finish so the brake lights don't effect the drivers, it blew me away the amount of people who didn't listen or just didn't think! Worse was the bunch of (youthfuls) driving a black van with Hoe Wagon written on it, back and fourth along the turn 3 exit rd, which is against the track fence, liquid and abuse to kids out the windows a loud boom box thumping and the brake lights on the whole way....good one But no official or security stopped this either? I dont like being negative about any event and dont normally mention it, but sometimes it has to be brought up to help make things better. I am in the belief this was a one off incident due to the holiday season, big meeting etc as I have heard great things about the track from many other meetings, and I personally look forward to racing on it one day as it is fast and technical. Maybe a ban of alcohol is best if the patrons cant handle themselves it is not the tracks job to look after idiots. As for the photo, its harmless fun guys, and well done on the win Shane

Well done to Shane McIntyre, family, supporters and crew. Great result especially after having a bounty on him with all the feature wins at Baypark...... good to see the 26M with the 1NZ on there. Awesome. Maybe an autograph hunter chatting with Lewis Dawsen at his final hurrah at Woodford Glen ... Or would you believe a spectator asking the club to reimburse him for the second night in a motel that he booked for the Hoopla before it was changed to one night! Pity he didn't catch up on that news like everyone else well before the event!

A lady sitting beside us got her cell phone out and took a picture of the license plate on a car of a young guy driving within the grounds at cromwell as he was driving round with one hand on the wheel and the other holding a beer that looked like it was in a 1.25l container. She was concerned that something might happen and that it would pay to capture the plate number on her phone camera. There were other young guys carrying beer bottles or slabs of beer around but I did not see any abuse, violence or untoward behaviour. Did smell marijuana a few times on my walks around the track.

I surpose last time it was all about the wall when the stockys came to town, points were made complaints a plenty.Solution was big effort to fix said problem hey presto little cromwell has one of the newest spec walls in NZ.Maybe next NZ champs we will own a security firm and full on customs like entrance way to welcome fans and idiots alike.Roll on NZ Sprinters and the hopes to meet everyones high expectations in every way.

I'd don't think you should make light of spectator safety.......

Congratulations to Shane Mac and his crew to pull off the 1NZ title and to the other competitors who tried. Its no mean feat believe me.
In regards to the comments here on security, it is disturbing as a committee member, club member, the main sponsor and a father that there was fighting on the bank. I dont know all the facts yet so the comments I mention here are my own opinion and not as a committee member.
We have not yet had a de-brief on the champs meeting but I can asure you this will be a main topic. I was unaware of the fighting untill after the presentation of the finalists when several guys in yellow jackets ran towards the embankment and one of the club members mentioned fighting. At this point police were called and arrived soon after.
We did have security in the form of a rugby team but obviously this was not satisfactory. No way do we want abusive loud drunk louts at our track intimidating and stressing family members or any specatators. They should have been removed from the grounds without question. We will deal with it and find the correct solution but we cannot be responsible for everyones actions.
As for the cars parked at the front of the bank blocking views for those behind, I agree and this will be changed for major meetings such as the Sprint Car Champs next year.
To those making comments about the track condition being rough, yes it was but you dont have any idea what your talking about. I did not hear one driver compaining about the track. This was a drivers track and there was plenty of passing on the inside and outside lines. Dean Waddell preferred the friday night track which was drivey and good for passing. Now compare that with the Hoopla at the Glen where passing was almost zilch.

Fantastic post Ray, whether as a club member, committee member, father, sponsor or racer. It's good to know Cromwell is serious about improving things even more, to make the Central Otago well worthy of another visit next season. Thanks for taking the time to type it.

Yes an excellent response by Ray and really nobody could ask for more now the event is over .
Unless anyone objects strongly I will lock this thread lest it over shadows what seems to have been a pretty good show .
