Thinking about going down this Saturday as the midgets are racing and I'd like to check out the new facilities.
Could someone tell us what time racing starts ?
... what other classes are racing ?
...which midget drivers are racing there ?
Thanks in advance team.

I understand a 5pm start.
All the National Midget Champ cars will be there plus extras.
Check the KK web site for updated info.

I see the Sprintcar Invitation is now a Sprintcar demonstration?
Is this through lack of cars? I see no list on the NZ Sprintcar website, anybody know what Sprintcars are running?

Full credit to the team at Kihikihi Speedway for a great meeting.
They look like they're on to a winner with the new track.
It was an extremely hot day and it was good to see them get the water truck out between races to try and keep the track in good condition.
In fairness, it did cut up pretty bad particularly out of two and in to three.
The hole in turn three caught out quite a few. And by the end of the night the track had slicked off and we were copping a bit of dust on the bank.
They gave Mark Edwards, the new 1nz mini-sprint and Ryan O'Connor in the 8a Sprintcar flying laps to see how those classes would cope.
Edwards did a 15.63" lap and O'Connor eventually got his time down to a 13.72".
The feature though was incredible.
There were several yellow lights which took out the likes of Shane Buckley, Wayne Green and poor Shane Allach.
The 11a got caught up in three bingles, none of which were his fault.
Standring and Steve Shanely didn't make the grid for the feature due to mechanicals. Shanley had had a pretty good run in the heats.
When the race started Brad Mosen in the 13a lept to the lead from grid position two and survived several yellows to hang on. But with about 12 of the 30 laps to go his engine died and that was his lot as the car limped to the infield.
That opened the door for Michael Pickens in the 54a to ride the highline and take the new leader Shaun Insley (1nz) in a great top to bottom dive coming out of turn two with three laps to go.
Insley hung on for second ahead of the consistent Carl Worboys (21a) and the new charger in the ranks, Angus McLeod (9).
The order I got for the rest.
1. 54 Michael Pickens 2. 1nz Shaun Insley 3. 21a Carl Worboys 4. 9 Angus McLeod 5. 17 Michael Brunt 6. 95 Tony Fabish 7. 96 Chris McCutcheon 8. 81a Michael Kendall 9. 4 Dave Gick
That's as far as I got. By the time the feature finished the sun had gone down behind Mount Pirongia and it's was time to head back up Highway one in the dark.
So thank you 2K's for a great day out. Incredible value for $15.

I see that TQ, Saloons and midgets set new lap records. How much faster are they over the old lap records?
