Pretty good response from the drivers so far with the following guys all confirming they will be there assuming they survive the NZ's!
As at 27/01/09 2nz, 3nz, 4s, 4h, 5s, 6a, 7a, 10s, 11a, 12s, 18r, 19a, 21a, 29a, 36a, 41a, 55s, 64a, 67s, 78h, 97h, 99a, 121s
This makes 23 so far and I am waiting on confirmation from another 4.
looks like being the best field for a number of years.

Jamo, I find those numbers very disapointing What has happened to the days of holding a 2 day meeting and 30+ cars? Does this show the decline in cars or is it simply cost thats stopping people from racing? This was one event i enjoyed, if i wasnt leaving the country and selling the car, id even think about going.

I suppose the days of 30+ cars may have gone Matt. To be honest we haven't had 30+ cars at a Dirt Cup for years. There seems to be a lot of guys like you mate who have cars but for whatever reason do not seem to race them! Everybody has their own reasons for this but it is one reason numbers are down. At official close off date for NZs this year they only had 21 entries and they are now up to 27. This is about normal for a NZ mod champs. If the Dirt Cup gets anywhere near that number you would have to say it is a good result. To be honest I think the club would prefer it if only 20 cars turn up because anymore causes a format issue with qualifying! I am expecting that bar any majors at the NZ's we will get 22-24 cars for the Dirt Cup. If we get this number then I think we have done well in the current enviroment.

Well i hope that you do get at least 22 cars as this was once a very much wanted trophy in the cabinet. As i say, the car has been sold in bits now so you may see it on track with the new owner next season. If the NZ mod champs are close enough to the world 240s next season in dates i may even fly back and stay long enough to go watch.
Good Luck with this years Dirt Cup.

THATS GREAT the number of cars going to come up for the Dirt Cup to top it off it would be great if there was a sell out crowd so the boys can show what mod racing is ment to be like

Most look to have survived the title without major damage. Must be question marks on 5s, 12s, 18r, 19a, 21a and 121s. Lets hope no major damage to 18r and 19a and that 21a and 121s can sort out engine problems. You can add 11s though as Merv said on Saturday night he was going to come up. A couple of South Islanders are showing interest but will be down to the club if they are willing to stump up with travel money to assist them

The 121 has had smoke blow from the same point on the engine for two or three meetings now, but Saturday was the worst and it finally went pop so perhaps they will have the problem cured?? Sadly I cant come up for the dirt cup.. Drew

Jamo, do you have confirmed numbers yet, anybody pulled out? is it going to be a 20 or 25 lap final? 17 have reconfirmed. 1nz, 3nz, 4s, 4h, 6a, 7a, 10s, 11a, 19a (50/50), 29a, 36a, 41a, 56a, 64a, 78h, 97h, 99a. Of the list above we are waiting on the following to reconfirm: 5s Roger Furness 11s Merv Julian (damage from NZ's. Should have answer by end of week) 12s Jason Kalin (engine issues at NZ's) 18r Dennis Hanson (heaps of damage as NZ's) 21a Gary Parker (engine problems at NZ's) 55s Paul Ward 121s Stuart Rose (engine problems at NZ's) If I had to pick a number today I would say we are looking at 20-22 cars.

The Dirt Cup was once a great event and although i prefered what Western Springs offered, the Dirt Cup was the one event that could guarantee i would make at least 1 visit to Waikaraka during the racing season.
Unfortunately for the class and the fans,it has lost some of the golden glow it once had and to be honest,i dont believe the Event has been anything other than a victim of location.
The ASSCC has done more to kill the event than promote it and i cant help but think the Event would have gone from strength to strength at a venue that gave a darn.

Both 55s and 121s can now be confirmed as starters as of last night. Great news that 121s engine problems were minor. With these 2 it takes us to 19.

How large is the prize pool? It is insulting, but I am biting my tongue. I know that committee members read this site so maybe Bernie or Wadey may like to explain the situation with regard the amount put up and the reasons behind it. After all it is the only decent modified event on the Waikaraka calender this season Plenty of money for non Auckland super saloons and super stocks though..... that is the main thing

Keep biting your tongue Jamo, even the Solos got more than whats allocated for the Dirt Cup. I asked in a different post if the lack of events and running time is a reason for so many of Aucklands Supers are up forsale. Who knows Now I hear, a top running Auckland Mod pilot is now looking at Sprintcars for next season.

Club accounts show how much prizemoney was paid out in any given year. Maybe clubmembers should ask for a breakdown of this amount by class. Within this breakdown by class it could be broken down to how much was paid out to clubmembers and non clubmembers. I think the results would not surprise a few of us but completely shock a lot of others!!
