Have heard there is a suggestion to have no more locked diffs in ministox. The train of thought is that this would slow them down and take away any benefits of pouring big dollars into them.No huge advantage in cheat motors etc.Won't need to grind cranks import g/boxes etc etc.Has anyone else heard this bandied around. Hell this would make it affordable and make driver skill actually important.Curious to know more please.

I cant see how this would happen. How many ministocks are ther in Nz. How many donar parts are their in New Zealand. With more and more people being reluctent to sell cars to be used as donar cars their wil be less diffs then there is cars theefore making the intention of the rule change, lowering costs far fetched. As everybody knows as the demand overruns suplly the price will get higher.

If the rule was implemented 4 years ago when there was plenty of parts it would be a economic and good step for ministocks but with todays times and donar parts I think the directors would be fools to implement the rule now.

it is a good idea yes, but as rusty says, it just won't happen in todays times - there are too many ministocks in the country to change a rule that would effect ALL of them...

Hmm, it would be interesting to see a comparison on the track between a locked diff and an open diff in a Ministock.
Spare diffheads seem to be one of the easier parts to come by, compared to things such as struts etc - especially as they seem to be relatively strong.

Good, It would be a bad move IMHO almost every class in speedway has locked diffs, the skills of adjusting a car with stagger etc would be lost if the diffs were not locked.

Rusty is correct in my opinion - I have watched 97B Trent ?? race 1 race with no locked diff, He was quick on straights but it was the corners where he lost all his speed. I guess the inside wheel would have been lifting off the ground and pretty much just spinning like hell. haha.

HEREMAIA that is,yes it is heaps faster on the straight, just my opinion but with a little bit of work on the set up you would go faster, havent had time to try this yet,and as for getting unlocked heads there is heaps around,at the start of the season had a diff prob (blow four)we run out of spears put the call out and got five spear now, what should of been done is the motors should be standard none of these big dollar motors,if you can do a motor up for $500 what is been done to a motor that has had $5000 spent on it???cheers

average cost of an engine when i did my engine Rings and bearings $800 cam: A12 cam bought up to A15 specs $170 or something close to that at kiwi cams bored out $free so i reckon you could safely say you could get a engine ready for $1000 if you didnt do any of it your self

something we tried at 2ks one day in the tr8 saloon car .because we blew the diff at huntly nite before we stuck in a b1600 lsd now what a total different car it pulled out of the corners same as locked diff but it was also quick down the straights .less drag on lr . we also in next race took the stager out of the rear end .this was ok on a slick track .but dont think it would be ok on greasy track like 1st race at nite time .ie huntly or rot or were ever . but food for thought . hic

I dont know where the majority of people would get an engine bored out for free either, most engine builders are in business to make money like every one else. If you only did rings and bearings what did you bore the engine for anyway? LOL $1k is a little unrealistic, what about an oil pump, a valve grind, a new timing chain and tensioner? No point in doing the job half pie is there?

Rusty our latest rebuild was about $2000-2500
That was new cam, crank grind, head plane, valve grind etc.
The works.
