havent seen to many open wheel championships but this one was well deserved. Paience was the winner as Jacko showed. Heat one was straight forwad but the finishers of heat 2 completed 59 laps of a 20 lap race due to stoppages, and close to that in the third. Must have completed 120-130 odd laps in total for a 60 lap finals series. Was most disappointed for Willie Noonan who was forced infield by and early jumper into turn 4 from a restart before the green flag by a green car, (by previous comments sounds like it was Arapere) Good night, oh the dust though, I hope everyone in the carpark had plenty of water in their window washers for the trip home lol

It was a great meeting with plenty of drama which wasnt good for the drivers but good for the crowd. 9/10 for the meeting rating. Well done to Stratford speedway and to all 3 drivers earning there 123NZs.
As for format, modifieds will never run anything other than the 3 race. Most would say they wouldnt bother going to a NZs with a 1 race final. We have spoken about this many a times and same outcome seems to be the same.

firstly congrads to jacko who drove a very tactical meeting and just let everything unfold in front of him, glen and bunta also drove well and deserved there placings. I also felt for a gutted willy noonan who was taken out of contention while in a 3NZ position and with glens clutch going in the final laps and limping home its the case of might have been even better. In heat 2, half lap into the race, Willy's car jumped out of gear with the pawl broken he drove the entire race with one arm and the other holding the car in gear. In that race he pulled off a scotty lane pass around the outside of i think bunter in turn one. Some big kahunas with one hand on the steering wheel. What a legend. Others to impress me was Tasha rodgers whose smooth driving and calculated passes, her day will come. Foxy was very unlucky not to be on the podium with a great drive in the last. It was a case of survival of the fittest with only 8 cars finishing the last heat. The track was slick halfway through 1st heat which caught a few out and wasn't the ideal track for a championship event. An awesome crowd with the big screen in attendance ,a enjoyable weekend.

Am glad to hear the format doesn't appeared to have affected the winner in this instance. Well done Jacko and next year I will have to show some faith at the TAB after 2nd and 1st in the last two years.

8 cars finished the finale....these are unofficial but should be OK - Jacko did it easy in the finale That's a good looking chart Tim There are 4 changes in the official result from that posted above, and sometimes it's hard to fathom how the DNF points are allocated. Officially, 41a scored 36 points, as did the 1nz. Further down 84c officially scored 34 pts, 17c 29 pts

Congrats to John, that is awesome news. Really come of age in the last few years after being a dark horse threat earlier in the career. Leech, not suprised, your a great peddler and well done to you and your crew for all the success you have had! I am most happy about seeing Bunter in 3rd, one of my favourite Super Saloon drivers of all time with his do or die attitude, very impressed to see him steer the winged beast home in 3rd.
Guttered for Dixon, Julian & Noonan, all legend names that would have been awesome to see up there!!!

Given that the big screen was operating, will there be an Official DVD/Video of the Champs produced? And if yes, then what chance of getting the highlights on TV?

Yes , there is some 40 hours of video footage from the Weekend. As to what will happen contact club President thru Stratford website. I doubt that there will be any on TV

I doubt that there will be any on TV 40 hours of footage from a meeting that lasted 6 hours over 2 nights, man that's impressive. Wellington last year was the first time in about 4 years that the Mod Champs didn't get featured on one of the Sunday afternoon motoring shows on mainstream TV (that's either TV1 or TV3). With that amount of footage surely a highlights package can be edited together with a voice-over commentary (please NOT Phil Dark) and offered to a mainstream broadcaster. They get a quality presentation given to them to air free of charge with no production costs to them either. Even they aren't dumb enough to turn that down and Speedway gets some prime time promotion. Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't part of our SNZ licence fee earmarked for TV promotion?

With more than 5 cameras operating it is possible to record 40 hours, That is what was recorded in the O B van. Not necessarily what was shown. If 5 cameras film for 1 hour that is 5 hours of footage. I understand that the club will get the wilds from the filming that total nearly 40 hours. I do know that a lot more than racing was filmed, I know because I was directing form announcers tower, yep a very much a rookie at that , BUT the rest of the film crew where not "Speedway" people although they all enjoyed themselves. The footage belongs to the club as I understand it. What they decide to do with it is their call

The TV thing is really weird. Last season I tried to get a DVD sorted of the NZ Stockcars but it didn't happen. The meeting did feature on TV though and from memory the club had to pay SNZ or Tv (Can't remember which one) a sizeable sum for that to happen. Snz then owned the rights to the footage and had for sale DVD's of the TV footage at the end of the season. I'm not sure what the story is this time round though.

There were 2 camera crews present for the Stockcar champs - one for the big screen and one for the TV1 coverage.

Just like to say thanks to Stratford Speedway and everyone involved in the meeting. Congrats to the top 3 cars. It was hard work out there on the track and I'm still undecided whether I like the track or not, its definately different but the people are great.
As a driver not sure what is the fairest way of doing a Nz Champs there pro's and con's for either way and whether people should get points for not finishing and there a pros and con's for that as well. I can see why the rule was put in place but not sure if its a fair rule
Congrats Jacko you are the man and it was great catching up with all the North Island drivers.
