An exciting night at Springs Speedway and a massive improvement on what was a flat Wednesday Night Meeting.
12usa Dave Darland won the 30 Lapper for the third year in a row. Darland looked a bit off the pace but an incident between 54a Michael Pickens, 3usa Jerry Coons Jr and 1usa Davey Ray saw Darland move into second behind 11a Shayne Alach. Alach developed a problem in the late going and Darland was able to secure the win.
27a Alan Wakeling won the Sprintcar feature and 19a Brock Mascovich won the TQ feature.
The TQ feature included quite possibly the biggest barrel roll I have ever seen. 13a John Hopewell rolled 8-9 times and must have covered at least 50 meters in doing so.
Overall I thought it was an entertaining night, definitely the best night I've seen this season at Western Springs and on par with night 2 of the World 240's.

You beat me to it Percy,so ive deleted the thread i posted and ill add my efforts to yours.
Dave Darland is not only a bloody nice guy,hes also an outstanding open wheel pilot and backs up his victory in the same race last year.
Its also a good result for Shane Snooks and the ADL Team who have had there share of ups and downs......also shows that the old Fontana powerplant still has enough life left to take another victory.

The bloke is a class act out on the track that's for sure. You never see him on the grass or making contact whilst passing. He's a clean driver and a credit to the sport.
Hopefully some time in the next two meetings we get to see he and Pickens going toe to toe at the front of a field.

Good summary Percy.
Though I do have a big worry from last night.
Noise !!!
After race 8, seven midgets were sent out one at a time as a bunch of men in fluro vests watched their noise meters intently.
In heat four of the Midget series Dave Darland was black flagged for noise.
During the Test race Davey Ray stopped and the yellow flag was brought out. And for no reason at all the cars circulated under the yellow for five laps. We were not told why.
However .... the noise readings are taken seven metres in from the edge of the track and must not excede 95db "for the average of the race". In other words the noise level is taken as an average and so we suspect the yellow was to get the average reading down to placate the Council officials.
We are being softened up people !!!
How long will it be before we notice the "Elephant in the room" and realise the local community are determined to get rid of us.
It's time we started "building partnerships" (sucking up to) the Manukau Council and get that venue built on the motorsport park designated land near the airport.
Your thoughts.

when banks was in power last time he supported the springs i have not heard much of late from him on the springs life span.

SNZ officials were there last night monitoring the decibel levels as well as the Springs moderators. Does any more need to be said???
The speedway has been there since 1929 and will I'm sure continue to existy for many years to come.
One good thing with having a curfew (brought about by noise constraints) is that the meeting has to be run efficiently to get through the programme. Western Springs achieves this.
I'm sure its a darn sight better for families (and there are many of them that attend the Springs meetings) to know they'll be on the way home again at 10:30 rather than sitting watching a long drawn out meeting, such as recently happened at Te Marua, till after midnight.
From what I understand if there is no speedway at the Springs the council will lose millions of dollars in revenue???

Yes the noise stuff reared it's ugly head a little last night.
I read in the programme that members of the Auckland City Council were in attendance. Perhaps that had something to do with what was going on (i.e a more stringent approach to noise policing). Now there's a conspiracy theory.
Judging by feature grid positions both Shayne Alach and Dave Darland were re-instated after being shown the black flag.
The yellow flag in the test race reeked of being for noise didn't it. Yet the same 10 cars plus 10 others contested the 30 Lapper and there were no problems. Or were there?? When Kruseman lost his muffler late in the race he would normally have been black flagged but they threw the yellows......
Perhaps the most perplexing aspect of everything was that the 43usa car was audibly louder on Wednesday night and we had "no problems" on Wednesday.

Cards funny youmention noise , but the wind last night would not have helped as standing on my deck in royal heights last night i could hear the racing from there

Yep, Percy, I agree with you regarding the 43USA car on Wednesday night. It was very noticeable.
