Down at wellington for the NZ stockcar champs. Peter was right up near the front going like a bat out of hell until he spun out, then it was all on taking on anything and everything. We asked him what happened and he said Thought I'd see how fast it would go until i could spin out, then I'll go have some fun. Just the way he always does.

When Pete raced for the Crusaders a few years ago at the NZ Stockcar Teams Champs, about an hour or so before racing, Pete disapeared. I was Captain, and Lyndsey 34K was manager and someone else came up and told us that they had organised Rhys Grieg 28W to fill in for our injured man. What the hecks goin on? We cruised over to Petes trailer, and Petes boy just kept telling me, Dads gone to hospital, he cut his hand, but dont worry hes had worse and he will still be racing. Pete came back not long before racing was due to start, his hand was all bandaged (and stitched) up, and it was obvious it was a bit tender, but he was tough, he was there to race and went on the hunt for an oversized glove. Im unsure but I think he raced with a welding glove on the injured hand in the end. When coming up with a gameplan, we offered him the chance to flagrun, as he may not get repeated impact on his hand that way, or even go reserve, but he let it be known he was there to bash and his injury was a minor inconveniance. We had a real bad run against the Mount, but we gave it to Welly hard with the whole team putting everythin on the line.. still lost but gave a darn good try.
Driving with Barry, i never saw him much on track, but the next night i got to watch all his races and i was just in awe. He seemed to have antagonised the Auckland team and was taking hits from alot of blue cars, handling it, and then dealin it back twice as hard, as well as taking on whoever else passed him or got in his way, and it was unreal to watch. The guy was a machine on the track, and off the track was bloody funny and keen to help anyone.
